Welcome @Faheem from Milton Keynes.

I've done about as much as you've done to my 1.9 but its taken me over a year - you're certainly a busy bee! And two Z3s are bound to keep you busy....

Enjoy it and thanks for sharing

Hi Faheem looks like you've been busy ! Your right about the fact they are never finished its a good thing!
May be worth if you have two cars with the same carpets to strip your project out and see if its dry inside. If not at least you can get it all dry then set a day to swap it out with your wet stuff.
It will be the insulation that will be holding water and lots of it :mad:.
At least this way you'll get the result and not be off the road, if the carpets different in colour it will dry quick anyway as said its the insulation thats like a very dense sponge so takes a while to dry it.
Good luck with your project and see you at Shepshed :thumbsup::welcome:

Insurance is very expensive - I'm paying about £4500 (~$6000) a year on a car that I purchased for £2500!! :whistle:
Hello and welcome to the forum.
I can relate to your insurance issue although it is not really that new a problem. Back in 1972ish I had my heart set on a used Triumph Vitesse 2ltr selling for £285. i was 18 at the time and the best insurance quote I could get was £450, so a similar ratio to yours. I ended up with a 13/60 and insured as a named driver on my mother's policy.
Forget about the smaller engine, drive it whenever you can and enjoy fixing it when you need to.
See you at Shepshed.

Hello and welcome from Truro. I was nearly 50 yrs older than you before I bought my own roadster, but I wished I had done it at your age.

Your car ownership echoes the experience of thousands of enthusiastic owners over the years. Many of us started out knowing practically nothing about our cars, but necessity dictated we learned as quick as we could.

You have started on a life long journey that I hope will give you many years of enjoyment.

This forum is a great place to involve yourself in, but you need to be aware that it can be very addictive, as you will find out :cool:

Wow the number of responses that I've received is absolutely mind blowing. So first I'd like to say a massive thank you for the very warm welcome. I used to be part of a forum several years ago and I can say for sure that the community on that forum seems nothing like that on here.

Welcome @Faheem from Milton Keynes.

I've done about as much as you've done to my 1.9 but its taken me over a year - you're certainly a busy bee! And two Z3s are bound to keep you busy....

Thanks @mktommo - quick question - are those red seats standard from factory? I've been thinking of doing the same to my Zed for the past 6 or 7 months, didn't know how well it would go with the rest of the car. Is the dash red too?

Thanks @Antm72 Looking forward to seeing you there too! :) Why do the carpets get wet in the first place? The roof has never leaked on the drivers side and the puddle of water is under the drivers seat :/

Cheers @roadvoyager1 - I've just got my renewal and it's gone down by a £1000 - only £3200 a year now o_O I enjoy fixing it even when I don't need to =))=)) - locked my keys in the boot the other day - something shorted whilst the keys were in and it just locked the boot - had to drill a hole behind the BMW Emblem and stick a small drill bit through to it to open the boot! :whistle: Not something proud of. :banghead:

@Jack Ratt Thanks Pal, it is incredibly addictive I was up till 2 last night on the forum and then I was back up at 6 to head to work this morning. ;) It's interesting to see how much more cool Zed things the For Sale section of the forum has to offer than even eBay.

@oldcarman It is a very nicely tuned engine from the factory I realllyyy want to get it on a rolling road to see how much it is currently pushing.
:welcome: to the forum from West Cumbria. Great write up.
@Andy McDonnell Thanks Pal!

@Shelly Thanks!

A big welcome to you from Aylesbury :p
There are some Younger Zedders on here but I reckon you must be the youngest
Don't panic as you can see already plenty of advice on here and Zedders willing to help you :thumbsup:
I have yet to meet someone my age who shares the same passion for Z3's that I do. I am hopeful that I do though!

Welcome from Ireland!
@DavidM Cheers pal!

Welcome! Good to have you here :)
Cheers @GazHyde - thanks for your message a month or so ago too, I just haven't had the time to write this introduction post up until now.

Welcome Faheem! Is good to see young blood devoted to Zed3!
For most of us the age doesn't matters, we all like to think we are in between 20 and 25!
You have done a very good job with the blue Zed and what could be better than Zed?: Two Zeds!
Very shocked by the insurance level, but that's life: every good thing, comes with a price. Some time we pay a price even for bad things happening to us! In my country too, cars over 2litres have huge insurance and taxes. But the 1.9 is a wonderful engine and we will be friends for life time!
Keep up the good work and enjoy the Zeds; many miles with roof down!
Dan

Water leaks are normally traced to rear screen / blocked drain holes for draining the water away or if the door hasn't got its plastic vapour shield the water can drip through between the dior and door card.
Its been suggested the use of a plumbers smoke bomb set it off in the car and watch where it leaks from.
@Bozzy the plumber may advise you on that one :thumbsup:

the seats are red from factory on mine @Faheem - the door cards match too, but others on here from memory have extended the red theme onto the dash / parts of the steering wheel and on leather around the gear knob and handbrake.

There are dye kits available (I'm just about to do a little refurb of the drivers seat bolster) from people like Furniture Clinic and it is possible to change the colour with a little bit of work. I like the look of the red interior personally but at least one of my mates hates it. Here's a better photo of the interior....
