I think your lift will lift 1.3M The Z3 is 1.3m high so lifted to the full height of your lift without the additional block the top of the Z will be at 2.6m That's 0.5 beyond the height of my garage below the mezzanine

But the mezzanine doesn't extend the whole length of the garage. I could reverse the car in, lower the softtop and lift the car all the way and the screen would be clear of the mezzanine floor. That would work. But one day I'll forget to lower the softtop and won't be watching what I'm doing.
In my garage whichever way I load a Z, it's roof down and windows down. You won't forget.

Tony.

Part of the lesson learnt is the available working height is a mute point..unless you can lift the car to be able to walk under it then once you can crawl underneath it then that’s probably all you need…another gotcha I didn’t through were gearbox jacks..unless you can get a good 1.5 metres clearance you can’t get them in..then due to the construction you struggle to wheel an object away..I now have two brand new gearbox jacks for sale…

I found that you don’t need too much height otherwise then you struggle to lie down and reach up into the car..

I can see why 2 post / 4 post scissor lifts are used by professionals…

Of course compared to scissor jacks / axle stands generally it’s a lot lot better..

Looks like a hybrid of the two designs…due to the welded cross bars it will suffer from the same limitations as my scissor lift…but..it’s a good price..
My main reason for buying it it to help with my 507 rebody where most of the work will be done beside the car. Not expecting to do much, if any work, under the car.

The min height is 110mm so may be able to drive over it without using planks

The planks issue is no big thing when you knuckle to it..for working on the car alongside it will be great…I use mine for things like polishing , wheel changing / cleaning / interior work where it definitely avoids putting strains on back / knees /arms etc ..👌

Yep. That's it. In my youth I'd be rolling about under a car on axle stands with a gearbox on a trolley jack. I'm not in my youth any more. Still pretty fit. walk the dog 5 miles every day but lying down and standing up to get a tool I forgot and lying down again spoils the fun of working on the car.

@t-tony I assume your scissor lift came on a pallet. At 350 to 400kg how did you get it off the pallet onto the floor? Or did you build a little ramp and drag it off? (Or wait for a zed shed day and bribe them all with tea and cake and man handle it?)

It was loaded into my mates Transit van via a forklift by the seller. 4 blokes lifted it out of the van one end at a time. Once it's on the floor you use the pump unit to lift the end with the lifting "eye" while it rolls on the nylon rollers at the other end into the garage. Then the fun starts.

Anyone else had one of these heavy scissor lifts delivered and managed to get it out of the packaging? I'm just wondering if I need to throw a bbq

I had mine loaded into my wife’s horse box…reversed the horse box into the front of the garage..removed the packaging in situ, bolted the castor wheels shown on t-Tony pictures, using a crowbar to lift each end in turn..pushed it down the ramp straight into the garage..I’d recommend throwing a BBQ and enlisting at least 8 people…it’s very very heavy…good news is that it’s not going to deform under load..a few long pry bars would help..not easy

@Dxbolton The bootlid handle. You've filled the 500 and attached 507. What's the handle made of?
It’s the original Fiat 500 handle.
I had the 507 3D printed by a friend and then I stuck it in position with Tiger Seal.
After fettling and priming the entire handle was painted with Hydrachrome paint.
It needs doing again properly as the first company never sealed it properly, but and I have now found someone who can do it.
An alternative would be to buy bmw 750 chrome numbers off eBay and just reordering them before gluing in place.
The bumpers and grilles are being painted as we speak
Hope this helps
Dan

I had the Automech tilting lift, but you need a lot of room at the side to slide it under, then I had to jack up the back of the car because it was too low to slide the lift under,
You lifted one end up of the car up, and with the balance right, you could easily pick the opposite end of the car up and work on it level, or tilted the other way.

But now I have this Kromer lift:

Brilliant, even for just cleaning wheels. press a button to lift up to 3 tonnes.
I have fitted a pair of photocells under the roof beams that cuts the 'up' signal if it is interrupted by a car roof.
The zed with the roof down goes in between the joists to full height, but roof up, and the photocell stops it.

Even David's Tourer gets to use it occasionally

Next job is to raise the floor level by 100mm, with a pour of concrete, so the ramp is flush with the floor, and grade up the floor outside. That way I can get rid of the wooden platform.
Door will be adjusted to stop 100 mm higher and the floor tiles will be re-laid.

I went for the Liftech one. Rams in the middle will prevent work under the transmission but work under the engine and suspension is clear.

My z3 is a pre-facelift narrow body.

@Dxbolton When I get the tribute 507 back end on is it going to look weird with the arches quite a bit wider than the wheels?

I don't really fancy spacers. Might go for deep dish wheels but would wide body trailing arms be a an idea? Or would anything else need changing too? (As well as wide body inner splash guard things.)

@Duncodin i used bmw winter steels that are slightly deeper dish than standard.
The fitment looks perfect to me without spacers
I don’t think the suspension is any different between narrow and wide body, @t-tony can probably confirm this

The part numbers of the trailing arms on a 1999 1.9 narrow body isn't the same as a 1999 2.8 (widebody?) So I assumed the narrow body trailing arms placed the hub a little further in on the narrow body compared to the later (wide body)

IIRC the narrow body rear beam is narrower but all others are the same except ///M models. Andy @spurs fan in a coupe may have better info.
