Can you use the aux Jack to plug in your MP3 player? I can't see the point of a headphone jack otherwise?

That's the plan! I'll wire the 3.5mm to the Aux on my Becker headunit, enabling me to connect any audio device.

Presumably your Z4 has one as standard? My E91 certainly does and is a similar generation of BMW. I make pretty good use out both the USB and headphone jack.

My 2003 Z4 didn't have but I have added one plus sourced a cartridge for the cd auto changer as it was missing when I got the car. I mainly use my MP3 player TBH.

Pretty much... it comes with the glass, seals, fitting kit, screen defrost switch and wiring but yes it needs paint. It doesn't have a roof lining but the underside is finished in black so could be left, or flocked / trimmed.

You might need to do something, re-condensation I would think, but I am not sure, as the Weissman I owned had a very thick and plush lining.

It's taken me some time to work my way through the leather Z3M centre console retrofit but I wanted to make sure the conversion was done properly, without splicing any of the factory loom.

The use of the OEM Z3M gauge harness was fundamental at reducing the amount of work, so massive thanks to Southernboy for the tip!

A post by D-reame was also invaluable at determining what each of the wires on the above harness related to.

I figured the best way to wire in the gauges was by splicing into the headunit adapter loom, this way the conversion would be fully reversible. I also took the opportunity to wire up a 12v to 5v 3A dual-USB adapter, which would provide a source of power to the USB panel at the rear of the console.

A pack of generic loom wiring, some spade connectors and a lot of crimping later...

With the heated rear screen switch and USB panel at the rear of the console, I decided to relocate the roof switch to the front. This could be done by unpicking the factory loom tape and pulling the wires back through to the front of the console. For whatever reason, the spare slot within the centre console had tabs which needed to be trimmed out to mount the switch, but this took just a few moments with a sharp craft knife. All the new wiring was tucked under carpet as per original.

The wiring for the air and oil temperature sensors has been routed to the bulkhead (behind the glovebox) ready for connection, however the interior side of things is complete...

P.S. I still need to fit the correct handbrake release button; unfortunately it doesn't fit over the standard chrome button so I'll need to order a black plastic version from the dealership.

I don't have an awful lot of spare time nowadays so it's slow progress I'm afraid! I've wired the heated screen switch and attached the Hamann fitting kit. Next step is to offer up the roof and see if it needs any adjustments, then take it to the bodyshop for paint etc!

Last week a long standing 'Followed Search' came through on eBay in the form of a shiny pair of AC Schnitzer Roll Bars (ACS Part No. 98 05 4 613 730). Given that the price worked out at less than £150.00+P&P I didn't hesitate to click 'Buy it Now'. I wasn't 100% sure the sale was legitimate, however today any doubts were put to rest when a big brown box turned up at the door!

I purchased this tonight, simple but effective solution to offer a couple of USB charging points and headphone jack.

Hi there, where did you purchase the sub sockets. Thanks
