So, Steve Gugliemi, ex racing driver and owner of where I took my baby today was telling me about his woes today. Firstly, their workshop was a man down. My car was a walk in the park considering their other problems. It got its MOT. Other bits can wait.
The place is rammed with racing cars in various states of undress as well as some exotic cars in for 'some tweaking' or just good care and attention. Labour is half that of the stealers and everyone working there just loves cars, several including Steve are BMW trained.
Steve had one of his old racing cars in for some serious work. It's new owner was installing something Steve himself hadn't been able to do - a new sequential gearbox (Steve told me the cost - it's an eye watering price but I couldn't give away that confidence) plus drive shafts at £1k each - a total well into the high teens with labour. Ouch!
The sequential box has a completely different set of gearing compared to the original H box to make 2nd far more useful and it brings down the 6th so again much greater power delivery can be obtained at the cost of top speed.
However, with the box dry, they couldn't get the wheels to turn back through the box.

They discovered that the wrong drain plug and magnet had been fitted - it was 6mm too long and the magnet had fouled the final drive gearing.

The bit put there to stop metal bits from circulating the box had itself been mashed!

He wasn't happy at all with the manufacturer especially with a race deadline looming.
At least they discovered it before trashing the whole box - that would have been an expensive cock-up.
