Mini Cooper Convertible experience?

I would by an early Fiat 500 (before they too went on steroids) before a Mini of comparable age.

On the basis it’s a second car and you already own a convertible, would you not be tempted by a proper steel roof? For those occasions where the weather is being properly British.

Also, potentially cheaper and more choice to buy from?
 
Have you thought about a Fiat 500 ? Several friends have various vintages and all of them rave about them.

As we needed an auto we got a S model (as it doesn’t have the CVT gearbox that was problematic). Didn’t keep it that long but it was minter with loads of extras.
The drive was awesome - my Z is set up well but that S was amazing out the box by comparison, really liked the drive. The supercharger whine was great and was plenty fast. It was juicy but performance was like a 6cyl.

As they are enthusiast cars I’d looking at Mini forums and clubs for a cherished one.

having lived in much warmer climes I can tell you that I couldn’t be without a convertible in the UK - because when the weather is good we need to cherish every moment, Even if it’s just the commute!
In a proper sunny place the novelty wears off quicker than your sunscreen so I don’t mind a tin top in a hot country (with an AC of course).
 
I have a Mini Cooper convertible as well as a z3 3.0 (and too many others)!
I bought it after selling my Z4 Coupe about 3 months ago.
I really like it.
its a 2004, 55k miles with Chilli pack, so leather and 17” wheels and it is comfortable, economic and feels really solid.
I admit to being surprised.
However, it’s not like my z and it’s not a quick car but it is enjoyable and fun to drive.
The roof can be either fully down or part open which is nice.
Mine doesn’t leak.
Mine has run flats.
I can’t comment either way on them.
I‘m really positive about the mini but am about to sell and buy a 3.0 Jaguar XF.
The only issue is that I can’t get my golf clubs in!
Try one. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
