Made a start today

A job I've been wanting to do since we got Bob (our Zed)....getting the calipers painted.
After some much appreciated coaching from @t-tony top bloke and watching his recent thread,I jumped in at the deep end today,removed all four calipers,carriers and discs......perhaps not a Biggy for a pro,but I'm a humble bumbling D.I.Yer.
Tony stripped his down in 1 and quarter hours......compared to my 5 hours . Managed to get the car up on stand without any dramas.

Removed the two front calipers first followed by the rears.

Followed by removing the discs,fronts were really easy....the rears easy once I wound the hand brake shoes back .

I feel quite pleased how it's gone so far and relieved that everything looks in good shape like the back plates,bushes etc..
Tomorrow I'll set to with the wire brush and get it all prepped for painting all being well.

The yellow tape is labeling so I know what side they came from.
Despite freezing my spuds off I have enjoyed working on Bob today,but I really must invest in some decent tools,the Halfords sets look like good value and they're half price at the mo at my local store.

Nice one Steve, keep the pics coming mate, is it possible to paint the calipers without removal or is that a skimping option?
I purchased the biggest Halfords pro socket set last Xmas half price £300 down to £150. Worth every penny mate and highly recommended.

Is it me in photo 4 looks like the back plate has been fitted with the flanges facing inwards or do I need to visit specsavers

Cheers Dave,you can paint them without removing them but I thought by taking them off it would give me chance to see what state the back plates and parking brake shoes are in as Bob doesn't have a full service history,but I was pleasantly surprised tbh looks like someone has spent time/cash on the bits you don't normally see ....makes a change as i usually end up buying complete basket cases .
Would you believe the set you bought is the only one not on offer .

Yes they have been on for a few months now Steve,got them from Halfords £10 a pair,you just have to trim them down to suit. But they need taking off now and then to clean the crap that gets trapped behind them.

It's new crap since I fitted them but I think most of it came from the Yorkshire cruse when I was trying to keep up with Louis Mozza ....the roads were rather wet in places with water running off the fields onto the roads carrying all sorts of s**te .....was jolly good fun though .
