thats just it Sean, if you can have any wood then there is no point in going for something that was oem, i don't know if it will work but I'm going to try, and if it fails i will keep trying until its done. i am considering whether its feasible to use a sticky backed acetate or a 1mm sheet of clear plastic, that way i could use the film on the underside and the plastic would be the surface, that way it could be made to just stick over the original trim.
this would give me the option to swap it out when ever i fancy a change.

I decided to try a difficult pattern, then I know I can get a great result with wood burl, though I am liking the snake skin, I will fit it and see how it goes with my spotty Oregon leather trim.

should do, hopefully will get the chance to fit it sat, need to find a clock, maybe @spurs fan in a coupe can help.
but then again i am watching a few old/vintage smiths clocks on ebay, maybe a vintage clock would be better.
