Thanks - it's slow work though - rough "b*****d" file, then finer file, then rough sandpaper.... then more finer sand papers until it's down to the 600 grit...then it's onto the buffing wheel, and finally a buffing wheel with Mother's metal polish...by which time it should be flawless and ready to go to the chrome plating works.... and hopefully they do a good job first time... I received some screws yesterday - wrong size !! they fella sent me M2.5 instead of M2....:arghh:... I have already re-ordered with him, so hang in there... takes 3 weeks for airmail to SA. I managed to find some M2 pan head screws to use while I get on with the shaping process so that by the time the Hex head black screws arrive from the UK, I should hopefully have them all shaped and finished and chromed.... then I can fit the hex screws and post them off....

Quick update... I've started buffing the parts and finally will get them to the chrome plating guys later in the week... I still haven't received the screws from the UK - they have arrived in SA, but are still sitting at customs...typical - nobody knows what to do when a bunch of screws suddenly arrive on the scene...=))

So, the screws which have just arrived from the UK are now waiting to clear customs, so you can post them back to the UK again with the impending orders... =))

Hi Fordy
I will have to make one specially for you.. I have 8 in the process now, and would like to have them all done and posted by end of next week. The main problem is the cost of making one is as much as making three because the laser cutting guys have a minimum cost for a cutting order. That means the material cost of three is the same as for one. My price is £55 incl postage, but if I make up just one I'll have to charge £80. Hence my reason for waiting until I had more than 5 buyers before agreeing to make them.
They're my pet hate to make - other than the laser cutting of the basic shape, the rest is pretty much hand work to shape the top into a curved surface, and lots of filing and even more sanding... the holes need to be very accurately drilled and threaded too etc etc. As you can read on my last post here, I'm still waiting to get the little hex drive screws from the UK... I could send it without the screws and you'll need to get them there from Boltbase... they're cheap enough and it'll save me the hassle of waiting 6 weeks to get them.
The problem I have here is I need the screws to hold the upper and lower sections of the part together throughout the make-up phase. The way I've managed to do these 8, is by using the only 10 screws I have and completing each phase of each unit and then using the same screws on the next unit... so it's been very slow work.... The batch of screws currently at our customs here is the 3rd lot Boltbase have posted to me.... One lot didn't arrive, and the 2nd lot were the wrong size.... so I'm hoping 3rd time lucky - and it costs me £20 incl postage each time excluding the customs charges for 80 screws.... not cheap... considering I post the things back to the UK in the end...
Anyhow, you'll have to decide if you want to chat to your mates, and get at least 4 more guys to come on board, and I'll charge £65 per unit to make them up.... Why £65 ? Well since I took the orders for these, you money has collapsed after the Brexit issue, so my fee is basically to compensate.
Cheers mate

Hey Gazza
That's the truth mate - I actually ordered them before I started doing anything else - this is the 3rd lot they have posted - one lot never arrived, 2nd lot were the wrong size... I'm hoping this is the correct size now and I can get them.... Been a real PITA not having them during the production phases - would have made life a lot easier and production quicker if I'd had them 9 weeks ago...:rage:

Thanks for sticking with it Barry, it must be soooo frustrating for you when parts you need don't arrive in a timely manner. I've no problem with waiting as I know the quality will be superb as it always is!! JIM

No worries Barry thanks for getting back so soon, ill pay the £80 as not sure how long it would take for 5 and only 15 quid dearer mate and ill get the screws also. How much would it be with the chrome seatbelt feeds and arm rest? Really appreciate you getting back to me as I can see the process is really difficult and time consuming. Thank you

Hi Jim - I know you don't want your part chromed, so hopefully I'll be able to post your surround next later in the week - if I get the screws this week....
Cheers

So, finally the screws are in my hands - I collected them from my local post office yesterday... The parts are all at the chrome plating people, and they are saying 2 weeks and possibly more. I will keep on them and hopefully we can get them back sooner.
