The sun was beaming down today so I took the opportunity to fit the latest mod. Not everybody's cup of tea but we saw them on Alan Slade's car at the Autumn Colours run and I thought they were a bit of fun. Easy enough to fit except for getting the cables through the long rubber grommet between the door and A pillar. Like most jobs it would be a lot quicker and easier next time round. I will post a photo but I was parked on gravel so the image is not very clear.

They arrived last Saturday but I kept putting off fitting them til today. I took the live feed from behind the glove box and took it over to the driver's side behind the dash. There are some good pointers in the knowledgbase about fitting footwell lights and a remote boot lock. A post by gookah helped me find which wire to tap into.

Today I thought I would de-tango the headlights. Yesterday an old mate told me that boy racers give their lights the smoked look by covering them with patches cut from old black tights. This sounded like a nice cheap mod to me so I gave it a go. See the photo.

It worked a treat. Heated the lights, split them and covered the orange indicator lens with a piece cut from a spare pair of the wife's tights. She does know about it, honest. Should have been a nice cheap mod, but sadly I managed to f""k it up. If you heat your headlights in a gas oven be sure to keep any part of them well away from the flame! I failed and melted the bottom of the front clear lens slightly, enough to turn it white. I have hidden the damage for now under some black tape but obviously that is just to buy myself some thinking time. If the tights trick lasts I will find a replacement light and do the same again but with a lot more care, like I did with the driver's side which survived intact. Again see the photo.

Yesterday the postman delivered a fairly knackered passenger side headlight that I had bought off eBay. Somebody had tried splitting it without heating first in the oven resulting in most of the back being mangled. The lens had survived though and was the only bit I needed after part melting my own. Heated, split and fitted to the car to get me back to where I should be for £30 delivered. I consider myself lucky to get away with it that cheaply.

And then today UPS delivered a tiny package containing some smoked side repeaters again ordered off eBay.

I really fancy some aftermarket wheels, a boot lid spoiler, lowering springs and a new hood but my wallet has had a battering lately so I am going to try to control myself for a while.

It's easy to get carried away with buying everything we'd like to buy for one's car but I've found baby steps instead of lunging ahead and buy buy buy!! Good luck with controlling the purse strings, it's a tough thing to do at times!! Make a list and prioritize the wish list may help. HTH. JIM

Sell the Jag, you don't need it now you have your own Zed!

Selling the Jag is not an option unless I sell the caravan that I tow with it as well. It is really frying my brain having it sit there doing nothing for most of the time but the cheap caravan holidays kind of balance the books.
And thinking out loud here it took me 60 years to get a car that good and I will never be able to afford another one so I better hang on to it.
