This may be a very short progress thread as I really like my Z the way it is now. If you have read the thread in the Z3 roadster section you will now that I got it at a knock down price with no mot but a fairly short and simple list of things it failed on which actually turned out to be overly pessimistic as I had it fixed and mot'd within 48 hours of getting it home.

The first thing I have changed is the colour of the calipers. I bought what I thought was dark blue to match the car but when I opened the tin it was sky blue. I decided to give it a go anyway but was not very happy with the effect, it has grown on me slightly but I think it will have to be changed. Any comments good or bad welcomed.

And then this afternoon I fitted the purely for show chrome roll bar. Now this I do definitely like and actually prefer over the oem ones but again your comments either for or against are welcome. I would possibly change them for some fancy ACS ones if they ever came up for sale at a decent price but other than that they are here to stay as I like the extra bling of the polished bar across the top cubby box.

Cars are like women in the way that we love them "our way". Sometimes we lust after someone else's and sometimes we see or meet one we just can't get on with.

Love your car your way :beer

Has the exhaust been changed? looks aftermarket?

Otherwise nice to see another car with the chrome option. Mine has it save that the side fins have been replaced -- I kinda agree that the chrome fins are a BIT too much chrome :))

Think the calipers colour would look better on an Estoril Blue Zed, but they don't look out of place.

Also liking the chrome hoop look

That exhaust has to be the ugliest I have ever seen on a Z3 but the strange thing is even that is growing on me because I have never seen one quite like it before and it does give a very smooth exhaust note.

More progress today, maybe. The seller told me that the heater matrix is leaking, not into the car but finding its way under the car. I have done my homework and apparently there is a vent under the heater box that exits down the side of the transmission tunnel to the underside, which is bad news for me as the pipe work and joints to the matrix are outside the heater box pointing to a leak of the actual matrix core. So today I thought that I would have a crack at it but first I would check the coolant level, take it for a spin and see how much it is losing. I overfilled the expansion tank and drove to Bridgemere Gardens with the other half as she wanted some seeds and other bits and bobs that they sell at not too extortionate prices, unlike most things that are way overpriced there. I have not used the heater since buying it as the seller said it does not leak in the off position so I drove there with the heater valve full open and nearly melted both of us in the process. I checked the coolant before setting off for home and it was bang on the upper level then drove home with the heater full on again for a total of about16 miles. After tea I checked again when it had cooled and it was still bang on the upper level. Has it fixed itself like the track rod ends and other minor faults did.........I will do more miles tomorrow and see what happens.

Stupid question,

Does the car have AC ? And was the water leak actually from condensation from running the AC flat out ?

Sadly no aircon. I will give it a longer run tonight to see if the level drops. According to the write up I have seen on Pelican it is a simple job to swap the heater matrix as the dashboard stays in place but i am hoping this is another phantom fault dreamt up by the sellers mechanic.

Well we did another 40 odd miles last night on a trip out to the cinema thanks to compare the meerkat 2 for 1 tickets in was only £5.50 to get in at the Odeon. The car really is a pleasure to drive apart from a rattle that has developed somewhere behind the seats. Again we had the heater full on both ways and again there is no coolant loss so I am more convinced now that the sellers garage were pulling a scam on him and if he had ok'd the work they were going to charge for doing absolutely nothing. I am wrestling with my conscience regarding what to do next, do I contact him with my thoughts to warn him about possible future rip offs. If I do he is going to be peed off for selling a perfectly good car at a knock down price. Or is it better to let sleeping dogs lie as I can prove nothing and he has used this garage for years and sang their praises to me when I collected the car. Any thoughts welcomed.

I'd get a qualified mechanic to check for the issues the seller told you about and, if they confirm your findings, go back to the seller. Even if he goes to the garage and complains they may not do anything but he will then have the choice as to whether he uses them again.

Just my view as I'm sure we'd all like to know if we were being ripped off.

Sounds like the previous owner had a dodgy MOT test centre.

One door card needs a slight repair where the grab handle fixes to the card but it will not show when done.

The seats after a quick clean. No bases with them so fingers crossed that they fit on mine.

The seat belt guides look
almost new so that's a bonus too.

Sure they will fit fine.

Looks like a managed to get a bargain with them, so long as the bases fit okay.

Just need to get a couple of the Airbag emblems to go on the holes on the door cards

I probably will not use the door cards as mine are extended leather and in good nick. I might put them in the for sale section or I might use them as mod guinea pigs.
The drivers seat could do with a couple of minor repairs but I will dry fit them first to make sure I a not wasting my time.
How did this happen? I was just going to run this car how I got it.lol
