Well I thought you'd all get this one specially the six pot owners.
I've got air scoop in front grill but can't get hose connected rad in way( stupid me for putting it in when making my own grill) the hose end does pick up cold air just behind bottom of rad as per Mike Fishwick's, but I've always wanted some air via kidney grill, so looked at the OEM air path which is to say the least is minimal, I NEEDED TO STEAL SOME AIR from the kidney grill but not enough to cause rad to suffer.

Hacksaw out and cut along top and bottom line in towards the rad, then bent the metal in towards the oil cooler pipe thus giving me a flat solid base to mount some kind of scoop.

B&Q for gutter end cap thus some old plastic damp course used to hide joins and help air on its way. Tape to make it stand in the pic.

Hole cut for existing cold air feed so now we will have two feeds into the waste bin.

My big Stealth gauze filter is touching the top rad pipe and is tight as a nuns what's it so into my spares dept (old Tesco's bags in back of garage) to find my unused K&N which I know is mounted offset and shorter.

Road tested and pulls better with a definate smoothness, if nothing else it's more efficient for getting the colder denser air in. Happy as Larry cos it was a pig of a job but I could help anyone who wants to waste bin air it. Now when I finally go to get it mapped I know I can't do much else to make it breath better as its a M52TU. What do you think????? Rha, Roy.

Cheers bud, you just made my day. To be fair Shirl's going to visit the local Polish car wash to get the Tractor clean to show someone on Thursday evening. So I'm grateful for that. It was just too hot last weekend to be cleaning that great thing.

I got as far as the front edge of the Rad with my alloy plate Roy so it gets cool air from the grilles. Maybe I could add a scoop like yours to improve it.

Cheers bud, you just made my day. To be fair Shirl's going to visit the local Polish car wash to get the Tractor clean to show someone on Thursday evening. So I'm grateful for that. It was just too hot last weekend to be cleaning that great thing.

I take her to the shops and drop her off in that Fiat thing we've got, when I pick her up she says oh you cleaned my car for me, big smile from me thinking don't fib, just don't mention the Pol's and how much it costs.
Get home and clean the Z, get tea brought out to me for being such a good lad. Ha ha ha. At least the Z gets the attention it deserves.

Nice piece of alloy work Tony, haven't got the facilities to mess with the proper stuff like the big boys (you). Like to come and visit you again, perhaps if you get a gutter end I can show/help you. Hardest bit for me was getting the top of the air (waste bin) box the right height, calculated it too high, when closed the bonnet it was so tight I couldn't release it with the bonnet pull, had to phone the misses to come and pull it while I sat on bonnet, phew I was really lucky, took it all out reduced height to where it just touches. Cost me a couple of hrs. Still it's nice and tight without being a problem, saves making a top for it.

I had similar issues when I made a strut brace for a 3 series fit my Z. A lot of cutting, drilling, filing and some very gentle bonnet closing till I got it just right.

Perhaps wrapping the bin in something like this will protect the plastic and the incoming air, from the temperature of the engine.
