I'd be tempted to treat the new one to a protective coat of something so it doesn't go the same way. Por-15 maybe.

I know it seems sad when it's brand new. But unless they've changed the way they make them it will go bad at some point !

Exactly my thoughts. Its a part that just does not get seen again once its installed, especially as it near impossible to remove and install unless you have the beam removed. Thanks to Lee and the gang I now have that opportunity!.

I would, but pick-up only, sending such a delicate item in the post would probably reduce it to dust!
Sell it as a self assembly kit, @gookah likes a challenge...

Powder coating? A tad extreme perhaps on the cost front though.
