Hey Kev, welcome from me too down near Lincoln. Mine's a Sterling Grey Z4 3.0i Auto, and I love it, it's great car. I see oil filters in that condition regularly on Corsas, and others. Just been left too long. I would've put some flush through before changing your oil and filter, maybe you did?

Tony.

Hi Tony, unfortunately did not as I did not realise how bad it was and too late to get to the shops. Oil was warm so hopefully most of the sludge will have come out, but you live and learn. This is my fun car as I have a Citreon DS5 ( sorry!) as a main car and will use the zed for daily commuting and fun driving. So I will enjoy the ride to and from work and not worry too much about the hours in between!!

Hello. The key has a rechargeable battery that charges from the ignition and the rechargeable battery may have failed.

It could be that the seller has only just started to use this key for some reason. The way I understand it is you should rotate the use of your keys to keep them "charged".

Thanks Tony, weird thing is that I know the seller bought a new key for the car last year but did not give it over, so the key is an original one when the car was new. It was a 500 mile drive to get the car home, so should have charged up, so looks like a replacement battery and a new key from BMW (after pay day!!) is in order.

Why did he not want to give you the "new" key Kev, seems very strange to me, I would be making sure the car is secure (but then I can be very suspicious) lol.

Welcome from a fellow Z4 owner. Once you get on top of it, it will be easier to maintain and keep looking good

Thanks Tony, true, but he has a long drive (500 miles or so) to get to me and the car in a garage. Does seem strange as the key would be useless to him.....

Have you tried to reprogram the key. I had issues with ours and when i did the reprogramming it seems to have cured it. Now both my keys work fine.
