My load went over on a roundabout in the centre of Birmingham. It was strapped securely as always with me so was quite suprised when it went.
After limping it to our nearest depot 30 minutes drive away over the city to get assistance with there folklift it came to light that the loaders on nights hadn't used the correct equipment. The large white item which are 6m in length and around 2ft deep weighting around 500kg each was in a stack of 4 on the left side of the trailer sat on top of a metal stillage. This is fine as long as the loaders put metal bars or strips of wood underneath to stop it dropping inside. We can't see these and trust the loaders have done their job properly. They hadn't! This is what happens.

Thankfully the curtain although shredded took the brunt of it and no harm was done. If the curtain hadn't who knows what the result could have been.....

Just as well the curtain had held otherwise it could have been a right mess.

Lucky it didn't shed the lot mate. I suspect somebody will be on the wrong end of a one way conversation.

Thank goodness for the curtains, glad you're ok

The curtain saved the day. Incredible considering they are not classed as load restraints. They are purely a weather cover. If it had have given way and the stillages had left the trailer it could have potentially been very nasty. I had 6 stillages with stock on which will weight in excess of a tonne each plus the tonne of cavalock. Wouldn't fancy being in the car that landed on.

Must have been a shock. Nobody hurt thankfully although I bet it didn't do your schedule any good.
I presume there will be a near miss investigation to find out why loading was done incorrectly, especially if the driver themselves can't check.
Am always careful being on the outside of curtained trucks on roundabouts. Don't need 500kg falling on you

Your truck off the road again while they get a new curtain fitted?

Someones gonna get a shouting at for that I hope! Glad you are OK Dave...
We do out load plans Gaz the night before stating where we want each delivery placing, the loader has to sign the load plan so they will know who has loaded it. Be very suprised if I see them next week!

That's going to be very worrying from now on, sounds like they need someone to double check their work.

Glad your ok mate, don't like the idea of standing in front of a judge trying to explain that it is the loaders fault though.
I think your lucky escape has highlighted the need for a change to process.
See you Sunday mate.

You are very fortunate the load didn't break the weather curtain! Hope you are on the road soon!

We can check the loads Ian just not this particular procedure with regards to stacking the Cavalock. If its stacked on the floor no problem but we have to trust the loaders when stacking it on other stillages.
What gets me is that through no fault of my own I would without a shadow have been done for a dangerous load. That is a serious offence if pushed through court.

With regards to off the road thing.......nope, back to the yard to be given a roll of gaffer tape with instructions to put it on the inside so it doesn't look like a pig at a cattle market!

Cheers mate, erm Sunday?????

I think this material is one of the best part on the lorry progress of the last 25 years. And the cheapest, compared to the low emission crazyness...
a lucky end of the week Dave!
Wish you a good weeķ end now!
Dan

Wow you are certainly lucky the curtain held could of been extremely serious if it had not. Glad you are ok Dave. Have to admit you are having your fair of sh-t this year mate. Think we should rename you to Unlucky

Yoiks Dave, a lucky escape for you:wideyed:. Pleased to hear you are ok:thumbsup:
