Introducing our Z4

...I changed the wheels over on ours to try the Z3 on runflats and the Z4 on normal tyres...
mmm may try it myself first Bill. Thanks for the tip;)

A good idea Dave, after all, as with most things, it's personal choice. I find that Shirl's Eos is a nicer ride on non run flats and she has certainly not noticed any drop off in handling and I think she would have, but, her car is front wheel drive. Maybe that may make a difference?

Tony.

Over the years I've had 2 grey cars...................They were the best I've ever had.

Both were ultra reliable (just a coincidence!!) but the colour is my favourite. Unlike black or white (both of which look fabulous when clean and polished) grey never looks exceptional, now for the good side.....................they never ever look bad, unlike a dirty black or white one, even after the shortest journey.

A definite winner.

Back on the 'Run-flats' subject........I'm changing mine from run-flats next month once the warranty runs out. For me it's not just a ride issue but more of a wheel issue. My 296's are notoriously bad for cracking, I'm changing to non run-flats in the hope I'll protect them. If the ride improves (which I'm convinced it will) that's just a bonus.

The normal tyres do soften the ride and I can see that a lot of people would like that, but the harder ride is one of the reasons we got the Sports spec and not the SE. Some years ago I read a review in one of the car magazines that noted the "hard" ride that, from memory was: "The car feels every imperfection in the road surface even running over a discarded bus ticket, in Sports trim you not only feel the ticket but can read the printing on the ticket."

I'd give the Z4 a good few runs on the runflats as it is different as there is no flex in the tyre walls so its like being superglued to the road. The only problem I have now is getting an earful when I overtake cars whilst going round roundabouts - I know you shouldn't but there are 2 lanes!

bad for cracking

Of all the manufacturers wheels that we see cracks in at work I'm sorry to say BMW and a close 2nd MERC are by far the worst. We do put some of this down to the stiff sidewalls of the run flat tyres.

If we didn't have such c**p roads I might think differently.........but..........I'm afraid we do. Our road tax is supposed to go towards our roads.............what a joke that is, especially round here.

We drove on a 100yd stretch of road in Sheffield last weekend that (I kid you not!!) had 70 pot-holes, patches and god-awful repairs.

I'd love to have a debate over 'you're doing it for the wrong reasons' but unfortunately they are the real reasons right now.

If only - Road Tax specifically for spending on roads actually ceased to exist in 1937 (it only lasted from 1920 to 1937) since 1937 (Road Tax / VED) has just been general taxation straight to the Treasury.

Well, we've only gone and done it. We've treated ourselves to an early (big) birthday present. We've bought a Z4 to keep our Z3 company in the garage. She's a 2006, 2.5 Si Sport in Metallic Grey with 40,000 on the clock on BMW Style 101 rims. On run flats at the moment but these will be changed when funds allow. She was the eighth Z4 we looked at and we travelled as far afield as Preston, Leeds, Lichfield and Derby. Finally bought her over in Northants. The first three photos are from my phone and the rest are from the advert. Perhaps some proper photos later...

Cheers for now.
Dave
Like the Z4 mint especially the wheels, set it off nicely.

Cheers Roy, I'd not seen the wheels before but they do look good;)

Ummmm, that's interesting Bill, I, along with a lot of people probably, didn't know that.

Oh, by the way, very nice car Dave. I looked back through the thread and could have sworn I replied to it!! Must be old age...lol

Would have to agree about taking the Z4 instead of the Z3 to Europe. I would drive a zed 3 every day for the rest of my life if i was on twisty turny roads, but if you are on a trip to europe taking in the Sites and scenery and ocationaly opening up around the corners then its got to be the Z4 just so much more comfortable

hi just done 500 mls on run flats a,b,duel roads and motorways first big run, on duel and motorways with good roads tyres ok. down the country roads a right hand full you fight the steering all the time takes the fun out of driving, first time i have drove on run flats and as money comes available they will go, i can see how easy it would be to split a rim :(
