I usually get the email alerts from the DVLA but didn’t get one this time. Ho hum, lesson learnt. Bet if it wasn’t taxed and insured I’d have had a letter through the door by now.

That's tidy that. Perfect spec. It must be wild with the s54
People rave about the engine and it’s everything they say.

I accidentally let our family car’s MOT expire in December and only checked when I got a letter saying that the direct debit for the tax would not automatically renew without a valid MOT. You would think it would make more sense to send a letter advising that the MOT was due.

They will send you an MOT reminder, or used to do, but you had to pay for it.

Tony.

Nothing exciting, just fitted a new battery. I had it in mind it was the original OEM battery but found a cheap ass Lion branded one. It was getting weak and not holding charge unless it was driven regularly. Even on a fully charged battery the cranking seemed weak. We'd already saved it once on a decent battery charger/reviver. Specs on it weren't great either at 640CCA 70AH which I'm not entirely convinced was up to the job anyway.

Fitted a Bosch S5 008 780CCA 77AH replacement, decent price at £104.37 next day delivery. Used Tayna a few times now and had no issues, don't think the courier likes carrying them to the door though. She starts like a champ now!

The more you work on the Z4M, the more you realise that you've joined a special club. A club where you're entire driving experience is listening for clonks and noises. If yours doesn't clonk or make noises you clearly have the stereo turned up too loud, or it never comes out your garage.

Todays effort was to deal with drive shafts, another common complaint from the E46 M3 boys, that start getting noisy. Age and mileage will of course contribute to their decline, throw in 340hp and all the torques and they just get noisy. BMW have kindly made them NLA and the remaining sets require many many £'s. I've managed to find some eBay specials of the "made in China" variety which are amazingly cheap and delivered next day. The plan is to run these while my "worth their weight in gold" OEM ones are sent for a refurbish. Actually incredibly impressed with the quality and fit of the eBay cheapo ones. Obviously can't see if they are made out of tin foil under the rubber boots!

So here's some pics.... Side by side dimensions are spot on and all checked with the vernier's. The only difference is the main shaft, narrower and solid on the cheapo's against the hollow fatter OEM ones.

They come with new hardware as well, cap head hex bolts - much improved over the the e-torx standard ones.

Fit is spot on, no problems at all.

We'd been hoping that whilst it was in the air we'd spot the other clonk which we'd figured to be something coming loose and just needed nipping up. Haha. Remember the special club membership... We've found another common "M" issue. I haven't got the energy to go in to it on this post, I'll save it for the next one probably over the weekend.

But... this occurred after fitting the shafts....

At least you have some options Gaz, I could not find any for mine but the cages and bearings appeared ok so repacked and see where I go but I did try a few uk companies but no off the shelf stuff but there has got to be a custom builder out there but that’s in the future to figure out. I noted your arms a bit of surface rust are you addressing all that while your there?
