The way I reposted my journal thread on here was not perhaps the most technical of ways but I:

1) created a new blank text file ready to paste text into

2) Logged into .net by editing my host file with the static IP address .net thus bypassing the DNS problem with it (instructions on how to do that are posted elsewhere)

3) Opened the thread I wanted to copy on .net

4) Pressed the edit option for my first post on the thread

5) highlighted all of the text and right clicked to copy it

6) Went to the open text file in 1) and right clicked to paste the text

7) typed in a ******************************** to indicate the end of that post

8) repeated 4) to 7) for each of my posts on the thread pasting each below the last in the text file

9) saved the text file

10) started a new thread on here

11) Copy and pasted all of the text from the text file into the new thread

Some things to note:

- you do not need to create the text file you could opy and paste stright from .net to .org but whilst I was going to this trouble I wanted a backup of the thread on my machine

- as .net needed tags to pics hosted elsewhere these links are maintained so all your pics automatically show in the new thread

- on .org there does not seem to a limit to the number of pics that can be in a single post but there is a 60,000 word limit per post (I think) so for longer threads you need to cut and paste into several posts within the thread

- I did not copy other members replies within my original thread. You could do this out of edit mode by just highlighting the text on screen but you would not get any links so pics will not show

- you cannot enter edit mode for any thread in the knowledgebase as only mods have edit rights on that part of the forum

- I also took PDF screen prints of the thread so I have a copy of people replies etc...

Time, consuming but for threads you really want to transfer over its worth it. There is probably quicker way but thats how I did it.

You can click on the my journal link below to see the results on here.

+1, thats exactly how I did it as well, pretty simple to do and good to back up incase the site ever vanishes. Although I don't think many will be heading back now, I think we have found our new home! :-bd

Well done everyone again for setting this up ^:)^

I'd just like to say that in such a short space of time .org is looking pretty good and it seems perfectly reasonable for you to see what happens before you invest more of your time making enhancements.

At the end of the day it's the members and the participation that will make it work so having been "missing" for some time I'll just go with the flow... There are some nice features on here and I see Gill has found the purple font

Big :-bd from me

Hi Snoops, where have you been hiding? Hope all is well.

Hi HT - I think I fell into the trap of too much work and not enough down time.
The cuts at our place has meant much heavier workloads for the ones remaining and by nature I took on far more than I should.
Consequently never picked my laptop up once I got home. Dusted the cobwebs off it now and things have settled at work.

Only "downside" to posting is :-\ which smiley to use #:-s

Takes me ages to choose between them all...

Any way to reduce the number shown? Maybe with a pop up for the rest? Or do you "just get used to it"?

I think we'll just get used to it, unless there is some way we could have just our "favourites" showing??

Thing is, if you don't use any, your post looks a bit bare.

Initial thoughts. Looking good, but over the weekend there has been a section added for just about everything which in my humble opinion is not necessary. Just counted and there are 32 sections! So if I want to post a general piece about a good road run and pubs visited along the way I have to post it in 2 sections! Readers will have to seek it out although it could be of general interest to many.

I'll have a look and see if we can rationalise some of them. :-B

It didn't look too bad until I expanded the sub-forums on the first page. @-)
