Not sure where to post this, but this'll do for now. I know I'm not the only one on here that has anything to do with horses, so this is for those that do. We've got an IWT HB506 trailer here, just over 6 years old, and a few days ago we nearly had a disaster with it. Someone went out to fetch a horse with it, for some reason one of the girls here dropped the front ramp and one of the hinges snapped. Totally rusted out, I reckon something to do with the hinges being plastic coated, the plastic cracking and allowing in water which then can't get out and brings on the rot. Had a poke at the other hinge and that one snapped too.:wideyed:
Luckily we weren't unloading anything at the time, just broke under the weight of the ramp itself, could have been nasty. So, anyone with one of these trailers have a look at the hinges on the front ramp, horses can be dangerous enough without having one land on top of you inadvertantly.
Strangely enough the replacement hinges are galvanised, not plastic coated.

I really rate Ivor Williams trailors , a few years ago we passed the shop in Corwen , my wife fancied a small trailer ( now called her skip) first how to pay but she had her purse and card so money sorted . Then son drivesRange Rover around to hitch up —- but we had removed the tow hook to clean it . This was at 12.00 on Saturday so we sat outside on trailor while son drove 40 miles to collect bar
Son now taking another Ivor Williams to the Land Rover 70th on Anglesey for the weekend, ( with a 1952 SWB on)anyone intersted over 700 land rovers expected This trailor bought new in Preston after Corwen refused to match the deal
Unfortunatly he tows with a DMax , fantastic truck, be is on his 5th DMax first was 05 reg

hospice...

well I think thats how you pronounce it.....

Blimey. We've had horses for years but never took the plunge and bought a trailer as we are very lucky having miles of hacking on our doorstep. Ifor Williams have always been seen as one of the better brands. Just goes to show, at least no damage was done to human or animal thank God.

Sorry traded the 510 for a 511 !

Could well have the same hinges, 511 looks like a bigger version of the 506. The problem seems to apply to the front ramp hinges, the rear is a different design. All I can say is have a check, make sure the plastic coating hasn't cracked and bubbled up. The hinges are riveted on, too, so there doesn't seem to be a way of replacing with nuts and bolts, no access to the back of them. IWT fitted them for me, saves a lot of messing about. Luckily we're not too far away from Corwen.
Not complaining about Ifor Williams at all, they supplied the new hinges foc, and this trailer is over 6 years old now, well out of any warranty period. Just thought I'd point it out to any of you that may have the same hinges fitted, the thought of having the ramp collapse with half a ton of prime nutter on it doesn't bear thinking about.:wideyed:

Yep, that's the problem. I'd get that rusty one, the 506, sorted. As you see, they're riveted, bit of a bu88er to sort if you haven't got the right tools. The other one looks to have been done, got the galvanised finish.

Thanks NC my 511 is brand new so they must have realised.
I have just bumped into the owner of the 506 and let her know.
Great piece of non BMW advice
