I Hate Drunk Drivers!

[QUOTE="I found a specialist insurer who recognised that statistically you are no more likely to make another claim just because one already happened. Shop around at renewal is the moral and have no false loyalties to current insurer.

This is something I've always asked for an explanation for, ie, their contention that your likely to have another accident in the following 5 years ??[/QUOTE]
When you’re not to blame and other side admits liability with both parties with the same insurer yet still the policy increases in the part of no fault party. Beggars belief.

Outright theft! That's what it is. Business driving its own profit, not providing an honest service.
Have driven over 1.5m miles. Never been the cause of any accident or damage with one exception (reversed into an unseen broken security post in a car park ).
Can't legislate for being hit head-on by a lunatic, nor a lorry driver who has failed asleep hitting you from behind... How can you be in any way to blame, or, how does it make you more liable in future. Two near death experiences makes you a better more observant driver....

Simply stepping into a car tomorrow increases your chances of having an accident. To a degree, it's impossible to be 100% immune from the other t**ts on the road no matter how much defensive driving you employ. Clearly the experience gained from 1.5m miles counts for nothing...
Insurance isn't insurance any more. Its a legalised rip-off from which you can't protect yourself.

I do not consider it fair to judge all insurers on the way some (maybe the majority) behave.
3 years ago my wife reversed into a car , her own fault completly. She put a big dent into the cars front wing , the mark on her Nissan polished out. We were very surprised that because we made no claim for her car , (only the third party claimed )we did not have to pay any excess.
The following year the insurance went down ,NCB remained same,This was about 6 month after the incident.
We parted with car after and reduced down from 3 cars to 2 so I dont know of any later effects.

We have been with the same insurer for many years ,for which we have a 18% reduction on premiums. I do check rates every couple of years but have not found the same cover at a price to tempt me the change.

Good for you! Unfortunately, if there us more.substantial damage, there is no alternative but to claim. :-((

Just waiting for them to pick it up and send to @Sean d for the estimate and repair. After good advice from you all, I prepared a detailed pack to prove the value of the vehicle, including key elements of the file on the car (build sheet, sales invoice, MOT history etc.); and photos. I also checked a couple of the Classic Car valuation tools, and looked at whatever was on sale - not much! I also had a call with the Lawyers to start the uninsured loss claim. I shall send an update once Sean has it in his capable hands!

Saturday night, and some A**H** whumped into my zed :rage:.
Totally drunk and disorderly, other public offences including :attempted assault, trying to get away etc. His car (a Vauxhall) with the offside front wheel snapped away from steering column. Mine, with the rear offside wheel at a 30° angle in-to-out, , car half on and off the pavement, and damaged rear panel and bumper, plus cracked front grille with small dent.View attachment 118983
Initial guestimate from BMW, £10k and change. Glad I am not paying!!:inpain:
Any of you experts out there know if this seems reasonable???
Sorry for your heartache................Frankie

But the insurer still paid out to repair the car my wife hit, although no cost to do ours. It still cost them money

BTW, I forgot to mention that I had requested an AV with BMWCC a while ago before the fateful evening, but am still waiting for their stuff to come through. In fact, the dossier I prepared for them is what I sent to the Insurers (handy). I went with my Insurers £28k current insured value because I didn't know the true value, and was anticipating it might be higher. Let's see what transpires!

Statistically those involved in any accident are more likely to be involved in one again...

It is indeed criminal but insurance companies get away with daylight robbery - literally.
For the chance I'm repeating myself again, my sister was sat in the lounge when her bumper was removed from a neighbour's car without parking brake rolling down the road and her premium went up because she was probably going to be in another accident.

I always tell people, ....insurance companies are NOT in the business of providing insurance. They are in business to MAKE MONEY. They do this by providing insurance to the public at a cost.....THEIR COST.

I hate drunk drivers. As a former LEO, I have seen more than my share of the damage and injuries caused by pinheads without the sense to use a designated driver or take a taxi when they drink...

Hello all. Small update. @Sean d at Spraymasters got the estimate out, and it came in at around £11.5k for everything. Damage thankfully not major, but some of the parts were eye-wateringly expensive!:inpain::woot:. That's an M for you! Happy to share details with anyone who is interested. Insurers are sending an Engineer to have a look, but they haven't written it off. Hurrah!!. Let's see what transpires , but Sean knows the Z3 so I am happy the car is in good hands! Amazingly, I am STILL waiting for the Valuation Certificate, but I think the Insurers checked Heggertys also. Thanks for the information about preparing the dossier - it certainly will be handy as a negotiating tool, if it comes to it. Hope I get the car back in time for Christmas!!!

I am still amazed that people still bloody risk drink driving these days! I can still remember the "Drink Drive" TV adverts from the 90's, where they showed the aftermath of "fatal road traffic accidents" due to drink driving/drunk behind the wheel. That with me then spending so many years in the pub trade, kept me from even trying it once.

During a 2 year period, there was 4 regulars, who worked with each other building/renovating houses, who got done for drink driving. A couple year later and I'm over in Bedford living and working in a big pub and again, it was a group of roofers/tradesmen who got nicked for drink driving. All of these men could throw back some serious amounts of booze, so they had next to nothing to drink by their standards, but were still breathalyzing over the limit. The pub in Bedford had a reputation, due to a group of blokes who were our regulars and it was one of these guys who got done. The police were able to see our pretty big carpark clearly from a cosy spot on a side road near the "village green", so it was almost certain that if you drove out of the pub after time had been called, you were going to get pulled over.

@bp;ptxus I'm really sorry to see your post about what happened to your car, because of a drunken idiot behind the wheel. There are so many god awful drivers around Oxford, with mobile phone usage or either not looking at the bloody road being the most common and I've been lucky my car has avoided being hit when I use to park outside on the road.

Hope all of the Z3 family have had a good Christmas holiday, and are looking forward to the NY. By way of an update, all repairs have been finally authorised, but one of the major parts is on.back-order with no availability date. Matt and Sean at Spraymasters will try again in the NY to see what's happening. Anyway, the wait continues!
Happy New Year to all of you!!:)

p.s. I finally received the valuation for the Z3M from the BMW Car Club and it shows an appreciation of nearly 30% over what I paid for it 3 years ago. Careful , all you owners of S54s out there...

Is a back order item actually stocked?!?

When I had concerns about my car’s diff possibly needing replacement, BMW quoted a price (eye wateringly big! And impossible!) and said it would be a back order meaning they couldn’t locate one.

I hope this isn’t the case for you.

I certainly hope so too, otherwise I might have to look for another "used" part, or keep the car off the road until a donor becomes available.
@Sean d any news?

Yes, I thought about used/secondhand. It might be an option. Thankfully, it wasn’t needed and @t-tony and @Mint helped sort it with a diff oil change. Invaluable expertise these guys have.
