Yes I remember them did the Austin 10 1939 have them, that was my elder brothers first car after a triumph speed twinn and O.E.C 700cc JAP enging who remembers those ? My other elder brothers first car was a 1930 open top Austin 7 Geoff

I remember Jap engines were used a lot in speedway bikes, a top engine tuning man was a guy called Alf Hagan IIRC.

Tony.

JAP V-twins powered a lot of Morgan 3-wheelers :)

There is a car in the Beaulieu motor museum called the "Bloody Mary" powered by two J.A.P engines, driving a single chain. Built by John Bolster as I recall.

Tony I remember being out in the back yard of my parents terraced house, my brother had got the bike through house damaged the S/S cover on step
It was dark I was only about 5 holding a lead light for him while he tinkered and I got told off for humming to the Revs of the engine it only seems like yesterday haha

My grandad's car was an Austin A35 and had semaphore indicators.

Uncle had a Morgan 3 wheeler and found out too late previous owner had rebuilt the front end only back to front and one of the nock off nut unwound and the wheel came of.

My son has a 1960 Beetle with working semaphore indicators as well as flashing indicators and does 0 to 60 in a fraction over 4 seconds certified at Santa Pod

Being driving about 32 years now and a lot of cars / vans have been owned by myself in various guises. Some for work, some bought to sell on, others just because they were available at the time ....... and some because I like cars. My list focuses on the last group and some notable mile stones.

First car : (1974) Vauxhall Viva HB (owned in partnership with brother)
(1970) Ford Escort Mk 1 Caravanette.
(1981) Ford Capri 2.0S
(1985) Opel Manta GTE (sold to raise money towards 1st house)
Worst car ever : (1989) 1.6L Ford Sierra in Beige.
(1990) Vauxhall Cavalier CDI
(1987) BMW 325i Baur convertible
(1991) Talbot Express Van
(1998) VW Golf
(1997) BMW 325i estate
(2003) BMW Mini Cooper
Only car bought new : (2007) Ford Fiesta Zetec
(2011) Ford Ka
(2013) VW Golf TDi
And of course (2001) Mr Zed. 2.2

As a follow on to my earlier post, I'd still like to find a Volvo 240 (pref. estate) in reasonable condition to use as an everyday car, but I'd have to get rid of something else.
A Morgannning pal who used to train Volvo techs years ago said don't bother, go for a 940 (Wentworth version if possible), but I like the taller, narrower 200 series. Dad had 3 or 4 in a row. They didn't suit me then, but now? Maybe I'm just turning into him! :)

Must be a well tuned Porsche engine Geoff. Or is a V8 in there somewhere?
No it’s a 1800cc that he bought from America and had turned into a 2.3 twin carbs and special cams I can give you the spec if you want but will have to look through my emails it goes like sh one t of a shovel and sounds like a racing car
