Ian by MC i presume you meant MG. I have owned a TR4 for m6/7 years and a great classic repeat classic based on a 1950s model with a newer shell, the 5 had a bigger 6 cylinder engine which was much more pokey but the rest was very 1950 early 60s car IMHO the MG was a much more up to date modern car and I think that you would find a big difference in comfort, Geoff
Hi Geoff, I have considered selling the MC (M Coupe) to buy a TR5 with the 6 cylinder triumph engine, overdrive etc. Am very conscious of the 40 year difference in technology so the "dream" might just be best staying at that!!:)

Ian what is the MC Coupe ? not one I know ? Geoff

Its the silver one with the roof. They were originally marketed by BMW as the "M coupe". :)

Thanks, never heard of them being called that, you would most certainly notice a BIG difference HaHa

Thanks @Mnbrennan Martin for setting me up. Not sure if I'll remember them all and most will be boring shopping baskets except maybe for one, so here goes. Just for Martin.

1939-40? Ford Prefect,
gift from emigrating uncle, at 11yrs old my father made me sell it for scrap 10/- (50p today)

250cc Excelsior Talisman twin
at 13yrs of age, gift from broken backed trials rider family friend, one frame +3engines none running. Built it up to go back on road ready for my 16th birthday.

(65ton Centurion battle tank age 17.5yrs  not really mine but called it mine, took tracked test in Catterick before gaining car licence.) Best tank driver in my street............................................................only tank driver in street.lol

650cc BSA Gold Flash,(£15) went through hawthorn hedge at end of our road first time out,:hellsangels: sold soon after, thanks dad.lol

850cc Austin Mini,
bought and registered in BOAR, had to learn German hw/code took test on wrong side of road gaining car licence at 18. Allowed to swap for Brit/ lincene when posted back. Little did the authorities know what they had let loose on their roads.:thankyou: Lol

Triumph Spitfire MK1,
this lovely looking little car spent so much time in the hedgerows and ditches my girlfriends refused to travel in it so it had to go.

Riley 1.5lt
dark grey with maroon leather, varnished wood classy inside but wide wheels on the back. Maybe the first staggered setup in the country, LMAO! bloody death trap.

Ford A35 van
( no windows in the back just something soft) girlfriends refused to get in this one??????, policeman walked out in front of me to check the vehicle and I stopped about 6in from his knees with my foot nearly through the floor. He was furiously laying down the law to me when another car ran into the back of the police van so ran off without giving my vehicle a check, I done a three point turn leaving skid marks on the grass verge and drove away, he didn't even have time to take my number. Still feeling guilty ???:bag:....=))

Morris cooper S 997
with a whopping 55bhp. Written off on the Weymouth raad after going off the road up a bank and hitting huge tree trunk sticking up out the ground which the council should have pulled out, Mini went over frontwards onto its roof then back on its wheels over sideways twice to get back on its wheels facing the wrong way on wrong side mid bend, me unconscious woken by four off duty nurses returing from party early morning, they were first car on scene.:nurse: Needless to say the girlfriend when she found out refused to travel with me in any car,
She later became my wife and has since been in complete control of the car in which she travels with me, of course.!!!!!!!!

VW variant
(left hooker back in BAOR. Yuk!!!!!) Got posted home with wife and son and customs decided they had nothing better to do but strip this bloody car looking for drugs I reackon. Two hrs in Harwich with my 1yr old crying most of the time, must be the way I look.??????:hohoho:

Mini Van
Window conversion, ,it was ok!!!

Hillman Hunter 1750cc,
grey with red upholstery. Yuk!!!:wtf::wtf:

Worlesly 18/85 six pot,
This car reminded me of when I was the Colonel's driver, his staff car was a Zephyr 4 with a column gear change but he managed to get it changed to a brand new Austin 1800, much to my delight. I know what your all thinking, " him a staff car driver????" Well it wasn't untill I was a corporal and a driver vehicle instructor (wheeled and tracked) that I got this really cushy number. Boring having to stick to all the limits and take his wife to the shops and carry all the shopping, but to be honest I did get spoilt and got fed by their cook most days which beat cookhouse food plus they had a brand new Ford Corsair Gia V6 which I put most of the miles on.
This is how much he thought of my driving.
One sunny morning when I was cleaning the staff car in his drive I put the hose on the tap in the down stairs toilet through the window, no one but the dog was in and I'd finished hoseing down the car and couldn't be bothered to turn the tap off just chucked the running hose into the hedge while I leathered and polished the car, the hose must have worked its way off and next thing I knew the water was running out the front door. They had to move out for a week while a new downstairs oak floor was fitted + outside tap. Sacked????? Of course not he knew a good driver when he saw one and in any case the nanny threatened to leave if I had to go. Hmmmmm Can't think why.

Volvo 340.
owned for 45min, after collecting vehicle, on way home a drunk drove his Triumph 2000 onto roundabout wrote me off, smelt drink on his breath so got a passing by dog walker to witness on the spot statement. Reported to police, got paid out in 4weeks with a new escort hire car in between.
NOW!!!!! Things started to look up for me.

MK1 Ford Escort RS 2000, :rally:
Pic is one almost identical to mine except mine had no lower cibbies or front spoiler.

Decided it was time to see just how good I really was behind the wheel, so joined Aylesbury Motor Club. Car was really nice to drive but got in with the tarmac rally boys meaning the escort needed to be tweeked. First was the rear leaf spring re-tempering to make car squit tranfering the weight to the rear on acceleration. Bilstein springs and struts up front with adj billies on the rear, LSD, wider minilites/tyres all round, then when everyone thought it handled good enough we went under the bonnet with four branch tubular exhaust manifold with larger bore exhaust to rear peco. Then the head was reworked with big valves, now the twin choke carb was changed for a 38DGAS from a 3.0 Capri. Car went from 100ish bhp to around a whopping !!!145-50bhp. All this and I still managed to bend a steering arm going into a ditch on my first night event. Looks like I was finding out just how good I really WASN'T. Lol. All this and the car was the only family transport having four children in full harnesses across the back seat with the two Luke 4point harnesses in the front, must have made people scratch their heads when looking inside. A tow hook was added to pull the family trailer on our holidays to Cornwall every year. Sad sad ending to this great little motor.
My youngest (twin daughters) at the time wanted to go to the Sat matt at the local cinema to see Dunbar (I think)and I was only supposed to drop and pick them up but they persuaded me to go in, when we came out the car had gone even though it was in full view of local police station. Couple of weeks later I was informed it had been recovered near Aldershot where the thief (operating for a ringing gang had changed all the official markings and number plate) hung onto the vehicle and parked it on a double yellow where a warden noticed the tax disc didn't correspond to the number plate ( clever b*****d ) contacted the police who asked me to come and prove it was mine. They had ringed it to the point that the thief who sat in police station waiting room shouted to me that it was his car and the tax disc was not relevant. Anyway the police asked me to show them some sort of proof so I asked for a philips head screwdriver and took off the n/s rear light to get my spare key out, all this was being filmed. The car was in a sorry state as they had been off roading it believing that was its purpose. That's the last time I saw it but again got paid out quick with enough to get my next set of wheels. Sob sob sob.:grumpy:

Escort XR3i
hmmm even the wife liked this one.:)

Fiesta XR2i
hmmmm even better than XR3i, wife decided it wasn't big enough. Oh!!

Escort MK2 1600Gia auto, bit bigger and wife adored this one making it her own, woke up one morning it was gone.Grrrr:grumpy:

MK2 Golf GTI. Great but still front wheel drive. Hankered for something rear wheel drive.

BMW E21 323i now we're feeling spoilt, no car stolen for a while. Had this car for 9yrs..

MG ZR 105,

Citroen DS3 Sport,

FIAT 500X
great family transport but hate it. 35mpg isn't much better than the Z.

24 motors and 2 motorcycles remembered Martin plus a battle tank, hope I haven't bored you all with the little stories.
Now in the market for a Z4coupe E86 but have promised the boss to sell the Z3 first so we don't take a big hit on our/ my savings. Time is running out for me as regards my "M" ownership unless we sell up and down size sooner rather etc. Just had to give up my paper licence for a 3yr photo one so cannot drive the HGVs PSVs as before, not too bothered as I like retirement.
Watch this space.

Probably my journey away from Ford mate, Roger Clark/Arri Vat were my heroes but the e21 showed me there was allways a wall worth climbing over. BMW has allways had this expensive to run tag so although I hankered for most of the e30 range I felt scarred I would run into money pit problems. Wasn't untill I'd paid my mortgage off i actually felt comfortable running one, probably a lot of people out there doing the same. Wish this boy racer thing inside me would settle more, I do try the Sunday driver thing every now and again but I think it's time to go back to the strong elastic band from accelerator to scrotum job I recommend for other drivers.:bag:........:wacky:...that or take the wife everywhere.:stop:....=))
