My personal choice would be the "aloominum" Ash, easier to work with(bend) and much easier to keep clean too.

Well the cable ties gave in..
Ive made a marine ply replacement which fits into the recess of the bumper and then bracketed a rectangle piece which bolts onto the rad. Overall very happy with it, coated in bitumen to hide the wooden look and prolong it's life.
I also now have a template to get an alu one in the future
