I would also like a massive convoy of zeds, this is probably the only event we will ever get this many together in convoy at once.

I've seen other cars do it and it really does look great, so good that most of the time people actually stop and let the convoy past just to see it :)

For what its worth I'll probably be leaving c7.30am and if I can grap a quick breakfast as I leave all the better but not essential (I'll be picking something up on the way to last me through the day anyway).

I know its not what people want to hear but I've done 30 car runs before and they are just a nightmare (let alone 60), it would not be fair on other motorists and would not be fun at all for me. Coupled by the fact I'll want to stop somewhere on the way to stock up the picnic hamper would just not work for me.

half dozen cars in a group is fun but 60 [-x

Of course I may oversleep and be stuck behind 60 zeds :D

ps plus I'll hopefully enjoy a good longer run down with a few zeds on the Friday morning from the NW :coolsteer)

Definitely won't be 60... Somewhere in the region of 25-30 ish, broken down in to about three groups.

We all try and leave together, but as to whether we arrive together, thats a whole different story! :-ss

Right Guys and Gals

Time for me to propose, and justify, what I think I should plan. This will be a long post Sorry about that!

First I have had a response from BMWCCGB which "MAY" mean we get a chance to stick together at the Zedfest event, As Zroadster.org rather than get split up among the rest, but I will not get an answer for a day or two. I found out that Specialist cars are having an area set aside for them so tried the plea on that basis.

Second We have approval from both Goose and BMWCCGB to arrive "if delayed" up to 10:00 when they close down the general traffic for safety reasons.

Third The hotel have confirmed both the 7:00 am start for the breakfast and that if people want to go before they can take breakfast they will arrange the grab and go, but I need to let them know how many that is for, and it will be placed in the room allocated to us for relaxing.

Fourth I spoke to Goose (not yet had feedback from the police) but goose advised that we only need to add 30 minutes for traffic AND getting into gate 49. These figures are based on their experience from last year where they had 1000 "E" type Jaguars for that show, and we only have 250 to 350. They went on to explain that we must stick to the car club directions into gate 49 on our route. it will mean sitting in a queue on Dadford Rd, but we must not try and shortcut by taking the roundabout as we will miss gate 49 which we need. The important this here is that they identified that 30 minutes extra will allow for traffic and the queueing to get into gate 49.

Ok so what am I proposing to set up as our schedule on Saturday morning. (and Sunday for those that want to) I would propose that we have breakfast at 7:00 to 7:30 and then we all start to congregate in the car park so that we can leave at 7:45 that would mean that we would be in the queue some time between 8:30 and 9:00 at the latest (as long as what I have been told work out). That means that we are 1:00 hour before deadline and also we could be 1:30 ahead. It also means that we could be in place by as early as 8:30. I would had liked more actual times suggested, I did receive 2 PM's with suggestions and I have taken them into consideration. Please let me know your thought please people!

Snoops, and those planning to join us as we pass Brackley, if you could advise of the best way to recognise the right lay-by on the route for this, that would be helpful we should be there I think at 8:15 and would propose that we make sure we do not pass Brackley lay-by before that time.

Comments gratefully looked forward to both +ve and -ve

Duncan

Well done Duncan, that sounds spot on, is that taking the slightly longer non town route? :coolsteer)

We would like to have a cooked breakfast, so will make sure that we are down early enough for the 7am sitting and be in the convoy as close to 7.45am as humanly possible taking mastication time into account. :D

This convoy is going to be an awesome sight, shame we haven't got someone to video us all leaving, so we can post it on the forum afterwards, at least then we will all get to see the size of it! :coolsteer)

Yep, I'll probably post a new thread up on here and .net with a suggested meeting time and place on the M6 (maybe Keele services) with a c 30min window for people to meet up (I'll probably grap breakfast then) and run down to Silverstone from there.

I'm pretty open to timings as I'm not aiming to try and get there before 9.30am for the infield on Friday but would like to get there for lunchtime (ish) to see some racing.

This could change if the weather forcast is crap as I'll probably go lunchtime and head striaght to the hotel bar.

Hence why I'm plannig to post up only a few days before.

Feel free to start your own thread though and I'll fit in if timings suit me ;-)

It is taking the route snoops posted in the seventh post of this thread I spoke to goose about it and they said, unbidden that it was a good idea as that way we are turning left into gate 49 rather than right so we were more likely to stay together on entry.

Regards mastication time I am also about to let the hotel know that we are possibly going to have 70 to 80 people having breakfast in that half and hour and see if they can cope or if they wish to start even earlier. You never know, lol.

Your idea reference video has made me think I have a video camera and the driveway to the hotel is a good 200 to 300 m and quite wide I think we could all form up first and then take pictures and the drive off with the tail end Charlie collecting the video camera! Mind you it might look more impressive if we all formed up in the car park which is round the corner and the video starts with just the peaceful hotel driveway and then all the cars come round and past and let the camera get picked up after a little peace has settled back on the driveway. I will bring the camera charged ready and we can all chat about the idea Friday evening, oh and on here of course.

Has anybody else done the numbers by the way for this event the half dozen or so threads have had 11,000 views and there are about 1,000 posts that is some significant numbers.

Duncan has quite rightly pointed out to me that I posted my layby info on the wrong thread.... sorry.... there's a lot of Zedfest threads about..... well that's my excuse

Hi Wildeboy, Duncan and anyone else that wants to join the convoy en route. The pictures are self explanatory and the layby is only about ½ a mile outside Brackley so once you join the A43 you'll soon see us :D and we'll have a nice run with the group too. The layby looks a decent size so should be no problems parking up. We can sort out timings nearer the time by phone/text.

Wildeboy, if it suits you and you don't go to Horwood on the Friday we can sort out your ribbon and show plates when we meet at the layby :-bd

As I live in North Devon every year or so we get the Mini convention which at the last time out they had 300+ mini's and they get permission to run their own road closures with Motorcycle outriders and no one seems to get too stressed and they let them them all go by it sometimes takes up to 45 minutes depending on where you happen to get caught by them. It is great watching them all go by and if I am out I have bumped into them a number of times.

So yes it is a great spectacle when a number of the same type of cars go by in convoy.

What do we want to do do we want to set off in model series or just mixed up? getting close to the time so we ought to discuss it really. My thoughts, for what they are worth, would be to just do it by model to be a little similar to the main event but others may just want to group with people they know.

Comment please

Duncan it might be worth considering, for ease on arrival, that all the ones in the yellow ribbon group be together within the convoy if possible.
Just think that's going to help the organisers as we arrive at G13.. :coolsteer)

Duncan, it will probably be easier entering Silverstone if we are are in Model order. By the Saturday morning, most people will have

become acquainted, so will not worry too much who is in front or behind them and if you want to be parked next to a particular

person, in the display, make sure they are near you in the convoy! Simples!! :-bd

Hi Duncan, as said above, i think if we set off in the ''YELLOW'' group (wonder who wont be with us ;) ) from Horwood, collecting the yellows on the way, and go in together, we would more than likely be next to who we wanted to be parked with anyway. Old Zeddy will be looking out for Zippy in the layby :ymhug:
