Just to add to your jump situation, don't just hook up your cables and give it a turn. Let the jumper battery charge the other for a bit to allow the battery to build up as going from dead to fully charged takes a fair amount of time. This should give you success unless your battery is knackered of course. Keep that in mind for next time and glad everything worked out for you!! JIM

Well folks
Thanks for your well wishes but it turns out I need

a) two new tyres (no tread on the inside of the rear two);
b) the handbake looking at (terrible efficiency I am told - this is frustrating as last year there was "not enough play" so the MOT guy slackened it a bit somehow)
c) a new coil spring on the front driver's side - as it has recently snapped. (I know you should replace both but the nearside was replaced last year and is still lovely looking)

To save a fair bit of money I have bought the coil spring and me and a hobbyist friend are trying to replace it, but we cannot get enough tension on it to re-affix the cap and the fixing bit above it, as the shock absorber's really short. Does anyone have any tips for this please? I can't wait to get out in this weather

Cheers

Btw we had it fairly well tensioned with spring clamps, now he's trying a spring compressor. This is all being done off the car

Glad to hear it is starting to come together. All the jobs are small but not easy on the wallet
