buy the kit from halfords,

it comes with a small brush applicator or (the best bit) a fine needle point applicator.

the needle applicator helps prevent over application of the paint.

Yeah I'll be going for sure, just not 100% sure if I'll be taking mine with me.

It would be nice to meet a few fellow zedders and hopefully get chance to have a good look at liams z3 :)

Hi Matt,

Did you actually buy this having first seen it on Pistonheads?

I remember you picking it up and reading the story on 'the other' site ;) but never asked the question.

I saw it after it had been on PH for just a few minutes but wasn't savvy enough, rich enough or quick enough to make a move...

Hi Warrior

Yep that's the one — had her for just over a year now.

I remember clicking on PH at 2230hrs after a real awful day and saw a 'NEW' ad on the BMW M. Roadster section. Anyway liked what I saw and phoned the seller immediately who had just set out on a long journey from Cornwall to Derbyshire! Anyway I badgered him into being the first to view the morning after. We arranged 1100hrs - I was there for 1030 :D

It was owned by a collector who had owned if for two years and covered 50 miles in it.

The property had a separate courtyard with 6 garages and in one was the MR. Apparently being sold to make way for a new MP12 4C!

Anyway I nought the car and collected later in the evening. Between 1100hrs and 1900hrs he had lost count of the calls he'd had and also had 30 emails! I felt really privileged to be buying it for sure. Looking back it must have been fate :)

here she is when I first went to view

Ive heard that yours is a pretty special car mate. :coolsteer)

There are a few things on mine that I will replace/improve when funds allow. First up is the roof - although its mint in many peoples eyes, for me its the weak link. The first owner, a lady, had it for 10 years as part of a collection of special BMW's she and her husband had. It never went out in the rain and the car was stored with the roof in the stowed position. So it doesnt look as 'out of the box' as the rest of the car. Thing is a new BMW roof is about £1000! So I'll live with it for a while. Also the steering wheel roundel badge is marked thanks to me, so I'll change that soon too.

thats the trouble with the softtop matt,

mine is about 12 years old and in good condition for the age, but it still has storage marks that im not happy with.

im looking for a new one at the moment, just getting quotes.

even with a new one its best to store it with the hood up.

was that an official quote you have there for an original replacement?

many thanks

That was a BMW supply price with trade discount.

Ive spoken to somebody who knows the company that produce them for BMW. They are the only company to make them with the zip out window. As they are contractually bound they will not supply one (understandably) so if you want an OEM roof with zipper then its big money.

I looked into a non OEM roof made by BAS international. Whilst the prices were good there were too many little bits that made me not bother. The fabric looked thinner and ever so different different, the rear screen was bonded in and had an impregnated stamp in the bottom LHS - looked cack. Finally the side reliff pockets were missing, but apparently you can have them with the pockets.

Personally, If I am going to change it then I'll have to pay the money and get OEM. That said, its hard to justify spending all that for a few very minor marks that will likely reappear shortly anyway (well thats what my wife thinks on the matter)
