Hi,
I have just come across this site (!), as I am looking to purchase a Z3.
I am looking for a low mileage 6 pot, preferably 2.8 or 3litre, but am finding the 2.2 to be more realistic asking prices. The prices I have seen (on fleabay, autotrader and particularly pistonheads) are all over the place; is this usual?
I am planning to do major mods to the Z3. I won't let on yet as you good people might take offence being marque specific fans. I will be spending a lot of money on the mods, so want a low mileage example as it needs to last a while, and hopefully hold it's value!

Am I right in thinking the 'sport' has heated seats and electric hood, or did any other models have leccy hoods as standard?
I don't really want electric seats, or air con but want leccy hood. Am I also right in thinking the early models had ASC (Active Stability I presume?), whereas the later have DSC (Dynamic Stability?)

I will be asking questions regarding various things, such as lowering, wiring info etc., as long as I do't get kicked out for being a Philestine!

Welcome @Pond a low mileage 2.8 will be quite hard (and expensive) to come by, the 3.0 are a great car, but pretty rare. Hang in there, you seem to be looking in the right places, one will crop up.

Hood wise, if you get stuck with a car without an auto hood, I have facelift switch ones available for retro fit, you'd only need the boot mountings (or fabricate your own).

A very friendly bunch on here who will (on the whole) be VERY interested to here your mods, the madder the better (and faster).

Happy New Year

Hi @Pond welcome from me in Scotland. As far as i know someone else will be able to confirm that you can retrofit leccy hood to the z3 central wiring loom.
And yes ASC to earlier models DSC on face-lift and assumption right but you get crossovers as well mine is an early face-lift model but still has earlier wiring and has asc

Hi and welcome from Surrey. I wouldn't worry too much about low mileage, if looked after they go on forever. I have done 90,000 in mine and it is as good as the day I bought it. The electric hood is common on many of them, It doesn't have to be a sport. Mine is not a sport and has everything the sport has except sport seats and lowered suspension.
:welcome:

Hi and welcome from Leicestershire. I am pretty certain 2.8 and 3.0 all had leccy hoods and electric seats most had heated. Comfiest seats are the sports seats.

DSC was an option.I think
Happy hunting.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Gloucestershire. Now's the time to buy don't wait until the spring if you can help it, we all start getting delusions of grandeur about soft tops when the sun shines and the price inflates :D

IMO don't get hung up on low mileage cars as this does not mean a good car or one that has been looked after, they deteriorate even standing still and sometimes haven't had the care and attention needed. Look for one one with a huge maintenance record pack, has be loved and used regularly by an enthusiast or at least maintained to a reasonable standard and used regularly, so long as it hasn't been to the moon and back it should be OK.
Good luck with the search

Hi and welcome from me near Lincoln, as stated don't get fixated on "low" mileage cars they are getting rarer as time passes and will hold best value when left as standard. If you're going to modify it you won't ever get your money back but whatever you decide just enjoy it and the forum.

Tony.
