Did I read it right 450 dollars for the brace kit ? :wideyed:.

Some good reports though in the customer reviews.

Steve
Well I won't be asking that for it.

I just read an article on hear by mike fishwick don't know how to copy the link but he goes into a bit of detail about braces what you have is a body brace. Allegedly makes a difference to the handling might be worth a read before you strip it

The strong strut braces are a great bit of kit, you will notice a difference if you remove it, I reackon you would get north of £200 if you did sell it. If it were me I'd keep it on.

Be interesting to see if the car feels any different when it's removed, you never know you may end putting it back on.

Steve
It would feel different, the car will have more flex, I feel the difference when I take my hardtop off.

I've looked at these and would love one but was worried about ground clearance. I believe they do take away some clearance?

Can't imagine the weight causing a big issue so low down and at the rear, maybe difference between full tank and empty tank?

Having seen numbers somewhere in the torsional rigidity of the Z3 compared to E86/86 and E89 I can understand why some would want to have this brace fitted. The Z3 deflection needs only 1/10th of the force as an E89 needs. I suspect there is so much metal because there is no diagonal bracing. Being a square it will still flex but with that strength allied to the body itself I can see it adds an enormous amount of rigidity at the cost of weight.
Will it be beneficial in normal driving?
I expect it would but not as much as on track. There however the weight counts against you but better handling is likely to offset that.
I'd keep the rigidity.

I see your point Ian, but I doubt that Dave will ever drive that car in a fashion where by he will see the difference to be honest, as would most of us unless we were to use our cars for track days.

Tony.

ps. Personally I would lose the extra weigh and cash it in for something he will appreciate, like getting his wheels changed before he needs new tyres.

Well reading all the above its been of interest. Always a mixed bag of thoughts. I however don't require a chassis brace as I don't drive anywhere near the limit of the cars chassis. When I can organise an afternoon at Zed Shed midlands with Tony I will have it removed and sell it.

Dave, may I suggest that you remove it, run the car for a while and then sell if you see no difference?

Hi Brian. I only tootle about mate. Occasionally a staight line sprint but that's about it. I have never been one for fast cornering so I can't see the point in carrying the extra weight and selling it would give me a few quid towards something else.
