Good priced 3.0l

I'm surprised by this boy racer driving style by our...how do I put this...'wise forum elder grandfather figures'...thought you guys were done with this boy racer stuff back in the days of the mighty Ford Angelia ;)
Miss spent youth =))

I did not spell it that was Dino D

When I first looked at my car, before I even drove it, I wondered about the auto gearbox in a roadster, but as I'd already driven an SL merc, it didn't put me off. If it's good enough for a merc, it's good enough in a beemer.

The 2.8 engine is so torquey you don't really need gears, it could tow a train.

It really comes into it's own on mountain twisties as even if you come to an unexpected 180 degree corner, you are always in the right gear

The C class Mercs early 2000's are often trouble. One trick they have is to push oil up the wiring and flood the ECU inside the car.

Tony.

Well I think my manual 2.8 could do with a quicker gear shift, doesn't bother me much except when Im up against something as quick, getting away better then loose it on the change. (However that was before the manifold swap/remap which has made up for all the 2.8 faults) Do sometimes hanker for a auto box in slow moving traffic queues though. Went to LeMans classic 24hr few years back and the 2.8 never missed a beat 1500mls never looked under the bonnet, 5days of top down driving a manual on great French roads was bliss. Wouldn't buy a 3.0L now even if it was a bargain. @hard top Might fit a boot rack if going again though, was tight getting the kitchen sink in.=))

All mercs have autos, which says much.

I have had manual Mercs as well.

Sports cars have to be manual

IMHO I do not call Z's 'sports cars' they are just two seat'r mass production cabrio's.
But my 1.9 M44 Auto, slightly heavier than a manual, went like stink on the twisty bits, and the 'big boys' had trouble keeping up.
Just got to love kick down....:)

Horses for courses! I prefer manual and all our works cars were manuals as they said they gave better control in high speed pursuits but I note these days most of the BMWs and many of the Volvos are autos. Wife had a 3.0 auto Z4 and it did go well but I like the manual and being able to rev it when I choose to.

I am looking for a 2.8 but a 3.0 is on offer now @Rha why did you mention you wouldn't take a 3.0 even if it was bargain?

I am trying to get the history on this one. Not 100% keen on the two tone interior. BTW IO do want an auto as too much work through the city and up the hundred hills and such [mostly city driving, daily]

Thats because the phone he used would not allow a 3.0 it really is a 3.0. BTW I think Iphone doesn't allow you to put a 1.9 and many ads end up as a 2.8! crazy stuff.

The VIN is LL33039

Thats oddo_O Looks a nice car i think Roy was more discouraged by the 3.0 being an auto over a manual rather than the 3.0 power plant if its the right money / spec your looking for then maybe worth a look and a test drive

Hi Cooper, I meant because I've done so much to my 2.8 and it goes so well there really isn't any point in buying a 3.0, but an "M" would be a differant story, that's if we're talking Z3, now a Z4 3.0si coupe would tempt me, so sorry if I miss led you, I'll never say never again............... Go for your 3.0 it won't dissapoint you performance wise if it's a good one and you can allways make it even better.

PS; nice to hear from you again.:)

I'm somewhat relieved to hear your comments on the z3 @Rha!! You and @Sean are my z3 heroes and to hear you talk about a z4 in your future shook me up!! I can't sleep, the nightmare of you in a z4 has trumped all the others I have even the one's where my family is in danger!! lol. @t-tony was on the list until.... well you know, he went to the darker side of the forum!! Although a lot of my friends drive the z4 and seem happy with them!! JIM
And yes it is great to hear from @Cooper again, it's been too long!
