Well after Hughes @miller1098 disclosure relating to his illness the other year i thought i would also post up another ailment that can occur due to the Prostate.
18 Months ago i had a routine biopsy of the Prostate carried out and fortunately was given the all clear. All though i was informed my Prostate was enlarged.
18 months later and i happily go about my business.
10 weeks ago i start to change my health habbits and start counting the calories and doing 30 to 60 minutes of exercise daily. Result i loose 10lb in 6 weeks, then i over do it on a work out and pull my upper Abdomen Muscle. I struggle for 2 weeks untill i feel i need some pain relief, So off i trott to the Doctors and he gives me a prescription for 30mg Codein, I start to use this the week before i go on holiday and great i can now help subdue the pain.
So off i go on holiday. The first 2 days are fine sun, sea and beer. Then i wake up on the 3rd day and find i always want to go to the toilet for a wee but only dribbles come out, so i think lets flush it through with plenty of water throughout the day.
I then started to notice i had not been to the toilet for the Obligatory No2 (this for me is clock work)
So after 2 days of suffering not been able to pee ora empty my Bowels i start to take Laxatives which have no effect. This was also affecting my sleep because i was getting up every 15 minutes to go to the toilet to do nothing.
On the 4th day of suffering i go to a Spanish Hospital and have X=Rays and blood tests done to find that they can not find anything other than a mild water infection and they give me Antibiotics.
Still nothing happens and i arrive home on Tuesday. I go to work Wednesday where i am staying over for the night.I say to my self to give the Antibiotics time to kick in. (I only started using them on the Monday)
So i arrive home Thursday and go and have a shower when i get out the shower i noticed my legs anckles and feet had swollen to x2 the size.
I had already arranged to take Friday off to go to the Doctors.
So my wife says lets go to the Hospital. so off to the hospital we go. I get examined to be told i need a Catheter fitted to drain my Urine from my Bladder as it had over flowed and was escaping into my vessels hence the swollen legs and it was pushing back up to my Kidneys. So after it is fitted my Bladder is emptied of 2.6 litres of Urine the Bladder normally holds 500ml, i am told i will need to stay in Hospital over night as i am dehydrated and my Kidneys are only operating at 37% instead of the minimum 80%.
So during my stay and being able to see how much Urine i pee i was amazed that through the 12hrs the had obtained around 6 litres of Urine.
I see the Urology Specialist on the Friday morning for him to tell me if i had left it for another 4 hours or so then my Kidneys would of failed.
I now have to have a Catheter fitted for the next 6 weeks to help repair my Kidneys and for my Bladder to shrink as it is now probably the size of a Tesco carrier bag.
The Doctor told me this was all down to the fact that i had an Enlarged Prostate and taking Codien as this can cause constipation this then pressed against the Prostate closing the tube that allows the Urine to travel through.
So all you guys who are over 50 do not ignore the signs both me and Hugh have been lucky but it could of been so much worse.
So like Hugh said in his thread.

Bloody hell mate. I tend to have a good flow but the last one a night can take an age. Jue will moan at me "you still sat there!" Can take 5 minutes to pee. I had a blood test recently and all was good. Had a practical test when I was taken in to hospital which is nearly 2 years ago now.
I had a catheter fitted while I was in and the nurse forgot to open the valve and once I'd filled the box above the bag it backes up the pipe and back into the bladder. Should have seen it when the morning nurse came in and opened it! Hope your better soon mate.

Glad you are on the mend, sound words of advice

The Catheter being fitted was not an issue but the f***in pain when the bladder starts to open and close while it is emptying is bloody horrible. Hopefully everything will sort its self out. I may have to have an operation on the Prostate to open the gap around the Tube so it does not press on it as much.
Just be careful what meds as in Pain killers you are given anything that may cause constipation i will now steer away from

It's an awful pain, when they said mine could come out I started to pull the pipe out. The doctor screamed at me to stop, "there's a balloon holding that in! I'll get a nurse to come and take it out" dread to think what would have happened trying to pull a balloon down me pee pipe :wideyed:

Hope you get sorted soon @billz

This is more to Educate us for other signs that can lead to life threatening situations related to the Prostate it is not just Cancer this can effect

Was interesting on my familys take on me.
A conversation my Daughter had with my wife on watsapp.
Natalie: Hows the Patient
Kim: He doing ok you know your Dad just gets on with it
Natalie: Yes he does. he is not one to moan
What they dont know is i do it silently =))

Crikey mate! Hope all is resolved pronto, get well soon mate. Thanks for sharing as like most blokes wild horses couldn't drag me to the quack. It clearly pays to visit sooner rather than later.

Andy it seems to be something us men have an issue with doing. I only had mine checked due to having a water infection 18 months ago otherwise I would not of had it done. But this has highlighted to me it is not just about the Cancer side the Prostate is responsible for.It is responsible for so many issues relating to the water works and in a way the Kidneys.
When this started last week I just kept getting things to cure the symptoms and not realising there was an underlining problem

I got the impression all they wanted was to get me in and out ASAP. Even though i told them i was totally bloated and could not pee they did not even go down the Bladder line of enquiries
