A somewhat different post this time with a lot of pics (still not update with all the minor mods post tough).

However today the calendar was cleared for Classic Car Show 2017 in Oslo, Norway and I would meet up with my car club to drive together to the show. It was a good show up today, approx 30 sportscar of different brands.

As normal we meet up at the regular meeting point ( a old sea airplane harbor ) and there the Zed got the chance to "shine" next to Ferrari's, Porche's and few other BMW's as well. Nice to walk around and chat and enjoy beautiful cars. We had fantastic weather today with sun the whole day:)

pic1.jpg
Another member of the norwegian BMW forum, he has nice Z4 that he saving from a previous owner. Good that there still people who likes to "save" cars!
pic2.jpg

Even tough I'm getting older, I still get starstruck by red Ferrari's. And today I ended up between three of them in the co-driving to the show venue.

Ahead of me:

And behind me:
pic4.jpg

Sometimes there is advantages of being member of such a car enthusiast club, so we got redirected to park just in front of the main entrance and "display" our cars. I felt that I was a bit misplaced, however my confidence got better as I could see people walking by and look at it. ( or did the Ferrari get all attention )

pic8.jpg

Where a lot of nice cars on the show, however there was on stand that I really wanted to catch. The BMW CCN stand :)
pic9.jpg
pic11.jpg pic12.jpg

Did find a few nice ones there, but this one is really a STAR in my books!
pic13.jpg

We did a few comparisons of the Zeds, while we had the chance. They are so different, but still very similar in so many ways.
pic14.jpg pic15.jpg

However since I had my fellow BMW friend with me today and he still had some spare time when we got home again. We decided that we would try to tackle the spare wheel cage and get it out in one piece. (never know when/if I want to restore the car to OEM again). I also wanted to have clean rear end at next weekends BMW CCN spring meeting.

Forgot to take pictures, but snapped a few ones at the end. The main problem was space, that was solved by removing passenger seat rear wheel. The second problem was the the bolt holding the hinge to the car body was so badly rusted that it required a lot of WD40, hammering and a few very convincing words. However a some time the Zed was willing to part with it and we where finally at this stage:

pic16.jpg

Finally completely out:

All in all a good and nice car day here in Norway!

Yayyyyy got a call from DHL today : "we got a parcel for you!".

I love parcels, don't we all :)

So today this arrived from UK and the sender was @spurs fan in a coupe!
pic1.jpg

The package was well packaged with bubble plastic and lots of clothes.

pic3.jpg

@spurs fan in a coupe do you want your Windsor FC jersey back? :)
pic5.jpg

Looks like everything is there, except for a few missing screws and plastic covers (I was well informed about this).
pic2.jpg

Spent a little time dismantling the storage box, to see if I could easily swap over my existing locking mechanism to retain my key.
Looks like that is possible, without any big problems.
pic4.jpg

So now, just find time to install it on the car. Got a BMW gathering this weekend and work travel next week. So unfortunately it will need to sit in storage for approx a week.

Thx again @spurs fan in a coupe!

This thread is starting to become a blog instead...

BMW CCN here in Norway had spring meet last weekend and the Z3 really wanted to attend and try to shine against all other classic and newer cars there:)

Was a really good show up, the whole place was packed with cars and we had our first real summer day with 25 degrees. Ended up sun burnt and exhausted after being there for 6 hours!

Where a few Zeds there as well, was 2 Z3 roadsters and 3 Z3 Coupes (1 M version).
Some pics:

And google photo came up with this artistic rendering :)
pic10.jpg

And oh yeah, this turned up in the post today. So my todo list just go a bit longer:)
Finally I managed to get part with number: 1735728 - 2.5 to a decent price. It needs a good clean, but is in good condition. Looking forward to fit it and get a nice remap afterwards.

Finally a real mod posts :)

Due to bad weather a planned event got canceled and that openend up a few good hours for me and the Zed. So I decided to start on the roll hoop installation.

Turned out be a little bit time consuming since I got interupted by kids, hockey game (World championship) and a friend with a Zed stopping by...

So this was my starting point:

pic1.jpg

The wind deflector came quickly off

pic2.jpg

Since I did the install of the wind deflector last year, was it easy to get the storage box out as I remembered everything pretty well.
pic3.jpg

Getting the seat belts covers off and a quick testing to motivate me self to continue....

pic4.jpg

Norway played against the Czech's in the hockey world champions, I decided that in front of the TV was a good work spot. Wife didn't complain for some reason :) I wanted to retain my key and be able to lock the new albeit smaller storage box. So I swapped the inner parts between the old and new one.

pic5.jpg

After a lot of screws it looks like this:

pic6.jpg

If one have a none locking top lid, then this could be the cause. The spring for the self locking part can easily jump out.

pic7.jpg

To fix it, just lock it back to position. The entire locking mechanism, needs to taken out of the storage box, loosen two screws and slide it out. Easy fix.

pic8.jpg

Two functional storage box, with swapped inner parts.
pic9.jpg

Then it was time to mount the brackets, here I had take out the brackets securing the seat belt mount and the wide storage box mount. (forgot to take pictures of that, sorry)

pic10.jpg

Just checking that I do things correctly again.
pic11.jpg

Securing bracket two and playing puzzles with the remaining screws to figure out correct usage of them all :)

pic12.jpg

I forgot to take pictures of swapping the top part of the seat belt covers. But basically one just unbolts the seat belt at the seat (one bolt) and slide the cover of. I also did clean of the seat belts and lubricated the rolling mechanism, while I had it open.

Here I wrangling the "new" smaller storage box back in again.

pic13.jpg

Hm, now it looks just like when I bought it....

pic14.jpg

Time to secure the roll hoops..
pic15.jpg

Installing the second one, now it starts to look like something...

pic16.jpg

They completely change the look of the car.
pic17.jpg
pic18.jpg

Finally finish:) Did take a few hours, however I was taking good time and enjoying it. Would not say it is to difficult, just a lot of screws and small parts that needs to be sorted out (I usually lay screws and parts out in a installation pattern).

Very happy with the result, now the car just needs a good wash and a new top:)

Thx for all the nice feedback!

My plans for this weekend was to "spring clean" the house and the garage a bit. However after a few hours I felt that I have done good and solid work:) So I decided todo a little quickfix on the Zed.

I had some new door handle seals laying around. Since most of the DIY's for these claims that this i simple 5 minute job, I thought I would be able to fix this before dinner time.

The seals on the car were pretty much "rotten" and did not do any more good. The DIY's where right this is a quickfix, however when I have parts of the car, I usually do a proper clean of the parts and the spot on the car where they belong to. So I did use a little more time :)

Anyway new seals on and one more tick on my todo list is done!
pic0.jpg

However while I was doing this, a friend came over with his green Z3 to for a chat.
pic7.jpg

This my neighbor noticed and came out to join the party, then suddenly my yard where turned into a mini Zedfest:)
So from the left 1.9, 2.8 and facelife 1.8 ( and my wife's I3 also wanted to be in the picture ).

pic8.jpg

So the three of us had some fun with shooting pics:)

pic9.jpg

And yes, I was a bit late for the dinner!
