I was sitting in the car as Hugh was driving and thinking about the next leg of the trip. We were about 9 miles from the Oklahoma boarder and we were trying to make Oklahoma City before we stopped for the night. Not to long before this, Hugh had the car up to 135 mph which was the fastest we had ever gone. I was starting to doze off a little and I could feel him pulling over and the tires hit the rumble strip on the side of the road and it shocked me to full awareness and I looked over to him and asked if thee was something wrong with the car. He said no, the police were behind us. We had driven so fast for so many long periods of time, and I mean 90 to 100 sometimes for over an hour straight, that I thought it was only a matter of time before something happened. But I wasn't really sure it would because most of the time, we were in the middle of NOWHERE. The police asked Hugh to get out of the car and come back to their car. My heart was really thumping because I wasn't paying attention to just how fast Hugh was really going at that time. I mean, we were going fast the whole day. Just then, another police officer stepped up to my window and asked for the registration and insurance info. He took that back to his car and soon came back and handed them to me and said I could go now, but my friend had to go with them. I thought, OH GOD, he's going to get locked up, he must have been going REALLY fast for them to do this. They just usually give you a ticket. The officer said that I could go now. It wasn't necessary to come back. I said What are you crazy. That's my friend. I just can't leave him. He said I wasn't required to come and get him. I thought, Oh, yeah, just say See Ya, and take off. I asked where they were taking him. He gave me directions very fast and i couldn't follow them and I asked him to repeat them very slowly, which he did. I ask why I couldn't just follow him. He said they were in a hurry and had to go and they were going to cut across the grass median which I couldn't do. He told me that I had to go into Oklahoma, about 9 miles away to make the first legal U-Turn. We were still in Texas. So, all I could think was that poor Hugh was going to jail for a few days until a hearing before a judge. What if they gave him a few days in jail as a punishment? I was so scared for Hugh. He must be s******* himself. But that's not Hugh. This was rolling off his back like water off a duck. I was the only one sweating. So I drove into Oklahoma and made a U Turn as started back for Shamrock, Texas. All I could think was, Yeah, this is Hugh's LUCKY SHAMROCK!!!!!! Before I could get to the Shamrock exit, my cell phone was ringing. It was Hugh. He was trying to tell me where he was. He gave me directions and I soon found him. He was saying OH Shamrock............. we beat the Irish today and they're getting back at me.He's holding his ticket like a trophy and laughing saying Now this proves I've really been driving in America. ..........Oh, well, just another story of the trip across America...........Frankie
