You sure it's not your bladder letting loose?? What's going to happen when the donuts show up?? Mind you, just so I stay on topic, the clutch is going away before the tires blow!! JIM
Quite a statement as it turned out that the clutch was fine and the tires ended up blowing in West Virginia!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Frankie

Hugh kept wanting me to look over the edge of the dam and its such a long drop down there it felt like me eyeballs were dropping down to my scrotum. He kept saying, "No, Frankie, just take a look down there!" and I kept screaming back "Are you out of your frigen' mind? Frankie

One can't possible realize what BIG BALLS Hugh has as the drop right behind him is SO DEEP that most people would puke just looking over the edge. I kept pleading with him not to get that close to the edge. I didn't want to have to make a phone call to his wife!!!! Frankie.

Is that Lake Mead guys? If so we flew over that a few years ago. Keep having fun.

Tony.
There is such a drought there that the level of the lake is about 60 feet lower than when I last saw it. Perhaps in some of the pics, you can see this. If not, Hugh will post some where this can be seen. Frankie

Just woke up and I've realised what keeps Frankie so quiet at night!!!!!
I bought 2 of these in the auto store. They are pieces of sheep wool with velcro on the ends. They wrap around seat belts that can cut into your shoulder. It hit me that such a pic would be GREAT as a joke to the forum members so we set this up. Frankie

Not many pics today but Frankie found a friendView attachment 13525View attachment 13526
Here, we went into an Arby's roast beef to get a sandwich. When we came out, this was parked next to us. We never did see the owner and I should have left a note on the windscreen for him to go to the forum. We stayed at the Best Western motel behind the parked cars. Frankie.

What a day, started off really good beat the Irish at rugby and hit the road at Albuquerque heading forOklahoma 700 and something miles the roads are busy but making good time into Texas.man that's flat and vast landscape stopped for something to eat and fuel at Amarillo then a quick blast to the border, strapped Frankie in and set off down the road ,4 miles from the border thinsgs started to go wrong,I could see a car in the distance behind and unlike all the others it was getting bigger .oh oh I thought and started to slow down about a mile later it caught up and the lights started flashing so I put my foot down, this was a mistake !!!..........ha got you in reality I meekly pulled over and waited a little nervously, over he comes and explains I was speeding,so I has to get in his cruser and head off into the nearest town leaving the godfather at the roadside to follow.up to the courthouse in belive it or not Shamrock ....the Irish got there own back.So credit card a little lighter Sarah isn't getting the souvenir she hoped for duly chastised Frankie eventually found me and off we went on our merry way. Were now in Oklahoma City lets hope we can get out of here safely :)View attachment 13527
I was sitting in the car as Hugh was driving and thinking about the next leg of the trip. We were about 9 miles from the Oklahoma boarder and we were trying to make Oklahoma City before we stopped for the night. Not to long before this, Hugh had the car up to 135 mph which was the fastest we had ever gone. I was starting to doze off a little and I could feel him pulling over and the tires hit the rumble strip on the side of the road and it shocked me to full awareness and I looked over to him and asked if thee was something wrong with the car. He said no, the police were behind us. We had driven so fast for so many long periods of time, and I mean 90 to 100 sometimes for over an hour straight, that I thought it was only a matter of time before something happened. But I wasn't really sure it would because most of the time, we were in the middle of NOWHERE. The police asked Hugh to get out of the car and come back to their car. My heart was really thumping because I wasn't paying attention to just how fast Hugh was really going at that time. I mean, we were going fast the whole day. Just then, another police officer stepped up to my window and asked for the registration and insurance info. He took that back to his car and soon came back and handed them to me and said I could go now, but my friend had to go with them. I thought, OH GOD, he's going to get locked up, he must have been going REALLY fast for them to do this. They just usually give you a ticket. The officer said that I could go now. It wasn't necessary to come back. I said What are you crazy. That's my friend. I just can't leave him. He said I wasn't required to come and get him. I thought, Oh, yeah, just say See Ya, and take off. I asked where they were taking him. He gave me directions very fast and i couldn't follow them and I asked him to repeat them very slowly, which he did. I ask why I couldn't just follow him. He said they were in a hurry and had to go and they were going to cut across the grass median which I couldn't do. He told me that I had to go into Oklahoma, about 9 miles away to make the first legal U-Turn. We were still in Texas. So, all I could think was that poor Hugh was going to jail for a few days until a hearing before a judge. What if they gave him a few days in jail as a punishment? I was so scared for Hugh. He must be s******* himself. But that's not Hugh. This was rolling off his back like water off a duck. I was the only one sweating. So I drove into Oklahoma and made a U Turn as started back for Shamrock, Texas. All I could think was, Yeah, this is Hugh's LUCKY SHAMROCK!!!!!! Before I could get to the Shamrock exit, my cell phone was ringing. It was Hugh. He was trying to tell me where he was. He gave me directions and I soon found him. He was saying OH Shamrock............. we beat the Irish today and they're getting back at me.He's holding his ticket like a trophy and laughing saying Now this proves I've really been driving in America. ..........Oh, well, just another story of the trip across America...........Frankie

Yeah, definitely think they need replacing!

We were thinking that there really isn't any adjustment for rear alignment, and that perhaps the rear diff bush is so worn that it changes the angle that the tires contact the road causing this inside wear on the tires to occur. What do you think, guys??????

Frankie, what a story, especially for Hugh to tell his grandkids!!! Glad to see that you are home safely, we have followed your adventures each night with such envy, a journey most of us dream about. Not surprised about the tyres though, with all that heat & mileage and at speeds like Hugh was achieving, I should think they were melting back to flowing rubber!!!

You & Hugh will have to make your own album of all the photos for everyone to look though, I'm sure Gazza will help you do that!

Take care & enjoy your great ///M now.

Mike & Sandy

Phew I'm home, someone pinch me have I just dreamed that I've driven across America in an ///M.Nope I have the pictures to prove it. been a bit of a whirlwind but what a trip I'm at a loss about how to describe it.Im still smiling when I think of it and will for a very long time.I really like my car and love a road trip, what could be better than driving one across America so many things seen and done I will try and post a few memories and pictures as they come to mind,But I have to say the very best and I mean the BEST thing about this trip was the privlage of taking it with a genuinely kind, sincere and generall nice guy that I'm proud and lucky to call my mate Frankie.Every day was a education and a laugh he's a great host and when we got back to Egg Harbor his wife and family made me very welcome I can't thank them enough!! ok now for a little sleep :) wake me in a week.......zzzzzzzzz......///Mmmmmm..........zzzzzzzzz
