Hope its either an easy fix, or a 'give the car back'.

I spoken to them today and they appear to this point to be helpful and have said they trade within TS rules so if it's not the battery we will see.

Hope you're able to get it sorted easily and Jue isn't without a car for long.

It ain't looking good mate. Battery fine booked in at Pete Wilson's for a diagnostic on tuesday. He's looked at the RAC list of codes and without him doing further investigation he's thinking it's a module or the dash cluster. £48 for the diagnostic then minimum hour and half at £45 + vat before we start talking parts.

I’d first put a new battery or at least swap the one one from Z3 into it to rule it out before paying out on labour and modules as I believe these battery tests can’t tell the full picture.

Quite common issue on the newer tech cars.

Ford's were running Calcium batteries a while ago. Don't know if they still are?

+1

With all those different codes saying "lost communication" I'd change the battery first if all the connections are ok.

Watching with interest, I'd forgotten that my daughter and her b.f bought a 2 litre diesel kuga last month.

Has the dealer agreed to pay for diagnosis?

Just be a bit careful Dave, if it turns out to be something not covered by the warranty they might not pay.

Our smax is only a 2006 so a lot less gadgets but even they can suffer a lot of issues with weak batteries which apparently can even cause running issues with the engine.

I did notice that our smax brings up a low battery warning very quick - for example around 45mins of having the radio on whilst washing the car and it starts complaining (this is with a massive brand new VARTA battery - it runs a very big one, something about the opetions specced needing a slightly higher spec than a ‘normal’ smax)

This is what makes me think they really don’t like low battery level at all and start complaining early.

Tim, the intitial warranty was a month so thsts long gone so i'm going down the consumer law route. The garage was very amicable about things to this point anyway! He asked me to get it diagnosed and let him know what's wrong. He said he works within TS rules so if he was advised to pay he would. We've had the car just under 6 months and it cost £7500 so apparently we are in a very strong position.

That's interesting Dino. It has a big Bosch on it and it turns the car over great. So many people saying the Battery!

They do suffer dash pod faults as well.

But the battery would be my first port of call.

Batteries often fail as soon as we get the first frost, so could well be dash pod.

Is it going to a Ford main dealer?

They'd know straight away.

Booked into our local Auto electrician Tim. He has been at it 35 years in the same town so has a good name for himself. They have already said it could be a cluster failure, there is also a continuous buzz coming from behind the stereo even when it's turned off so maybe that could be involved with what's going on.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting and seeing if it all resets ?

No Pete I haven't. Took the car to work to see if it happens as I haven't seen it and it did it 3 times in a mile. I think it maybe beyond that to be honest.

Not good Dave. Try not to take it to a main dealer we took our Kuga when the DPF Sensor went i told them what i knew was the issue but they still wanted to run a diagnostic which they said was £99. They told me what i had told them and rectified it and £1100 lighter in the wallet, even though i got them to do the work they still charged me for the Diagnostics. Usually with BMW they knock off the cost of the Diagnostic if they do the work. Ford charge you for every thing and labour at around £100 an hour
