I watched it last night on catch up, and thought the same thing....does the rear hub come out that easily?
I had the impression that to swap that back plate it was drive shafts off, massive presses and loads of heat.....

Also, Who was that imposter posing as Spurs Fan In A Coupe..........


A couple of things I did notice....first he removed the diff drain plug before undoing the filler one, (to make sure it would), and also they filled the coolant with the car level, where the front should be raised.

I enjoyed the watch and the car looked very presentable by the end of the show but not sure how much was staged. The 2 guys seemed quite palatable unlike some of the other car repair shows even if 1 of them is a ginger wolverine!!

I'm not sure they could have done that in 5 days, and have parts that easily available. Maybe I'm a sceptic though. Also to sell a 1.9 for 2300 without checking sills etc, and a basic interior, no spare wheel (that was the first thing I noticed when they got the car up), I think even 2k may have been steep!

Took these pictures from the show, to show how they removed the hub from bearings. Once off, the backplate is accessible which is great.......but what about replacing it after new back plate installed. They didnt show that bit ! How do you push them back on? How difficult is that?

Yeah I didn’t find it to difficult. Last set I did was Paul’s. I used a long threaded bar through the middle with a plate on the back and wound it back on.

A long bar that has an external thread the bar goes through the middle then on the back I have a plate with a nut to stop it coming through. Slide the hub over the threaded bar with another plate and nut and wind it tight. This in turn presses the hub back on.

Oh, think I get it now....but the drive shaft has to be removed first. Yes? ( which they didnt show being done on the programme.)

Any advantage in putting it in a freezer to contract the metal before installing it ?

The shafts tap out easy. Remove the big nut and the 6 torx bolts diff end. Should be able to wiggle out by hand.

No advantage in using the freezer for this process I can think of.

Wished mine wiggled out but got a tool to try and push the shaft out.

Just watching this now, how did he have such a struggle with the back springs, just undo the drop links and they come out without any compressors.

I haven't watched the whole episode yet, got it set for record as it's repeated at 7am tomorrow. Would like to see how easy the rear bearings are to remove as I think my drivers side one needs changing.
