Fixing My Daily...Daily

Small job for today was changing the coil pack.

Lead 4 had some electrical tape around it which is never a good sign so I'm glad I've been able to change it. Also gave me the opportunity to clear out some of the gunk where the leads ran through.

Quite a bit of time feeling around in the dark but the best method I found was getting up on the car so you can see down the gap and clipping in the leads at the start then feeding them through. Starting with lead 1 as that clips into the bottom feed.

Wash and a clean after

Job 4 of the day: Spare wheel tray removal

It was a pain getting it to drop down to start with and then the plastic didn't want to slide out.

Finally got it out and looking at the wheel it's the original! All the way from the USA, never been used. The rim it was on was ruined with rust I'm so going to bin the whole thing.

This bolt was an absolute b*****d to get out. A lot of hammering, some wd-40 and mole grips finally got it off.

I cut the wire, no intention of using the cage. I've cut off one side to screw back in and seal the holes but then the angle grinder decided to snap it's handle :whistle: so I'll have to wait to do the second one
Sorry Al: are you replacing the doughnut wheel, tyre and fixing housing or eliminating it? You’ve reminded me to examine my car’s one.
 
Practicing with my new brake pipes kit. Learnt how to get clean cuts with this cutter and seeing how well I can bend the pipe without a tool.

And I think I got the unions on the right way round first time?

Looks like you've cracked it mate. Slightly harder to make the flare on an original steel pipe if you need to join a pipe but you can do it. Just be careful not to leave too much pipe showing to make the flare or it can be difficult to remove the flare tool from the end of the pipe and can end up snapping the thin central part off in the pipe.

Decent thread :thumbsup: well done. I practised brake pipes until I was happy then when doing them on the car i kept forgetting to put the connectors on before bending them. Frustrating! A very rewarding job though I found.

I'm going to take a whole day this weekend to do it slowly and make sure to get it done right. I'm putting in braided lines at the rear as well so it's going to be a long, relaxed day!
 
Get yourself a braided clutch line too while you're doing lines

I'm just trying to tick off the MOT problems right now haha

For now I'm maintaining, waiting for it to break then replacing with the best parts I can. At some point (probably soon) my clutch is going to go so I'll replace all associated parts when that happens
 
I found remaking the lines was a fun exercise when i did the rear end. I removed them complete and uses them for patterns. I had a bending tool but found the best way was to use the radius of a socket and the resultswhere brilliant:thumbsup:

I would deal with the new ends and joints on the existing pipes as they tend to be harder at least that way if you have more than one attempt you can add the length back to the new bit your replacing:thumbsup:

Same way I did mine. Just though I'm not dropping the rear end again to do such and such a job so did everything at once. Yes expensive and time consuming but wont need doing again
 
Well....someone isn't having fun today

Got the car up, wheels off, brake pedal held in place. Manged to get one rubber hose off but I twisted the copper pipe a bit... It pays to have the correct tools i.e an 11mm spanner which of course is the ONLY spanner I don't have :banghead: So that's where my progress has stopped while I wait for Amazon to deliver one tomorrow.

Thought I'd give my pressure bleeder a try but that didn't want to work either, it's p*****g air from the pump. Unscrewed it, reset the rubber seal but still nothing, just pumps and doesn't build pressure :banghead: until my dad did the same thing to fix it and it worked :arghh:

At least my black spray paint turned up today so I can clean all the clips and help them last a bit longer

One rubber line off. Half of the male thread is quite rusty so I might re-do that section of pipe unless there's enough pipe to trim some off and re-flare.

Placed in the new braided line, took me embarrassingly long to figure out how to attach it to the copper pipe without twisting the hose :whistle: figured it out eventually!
