I think that T- is correct. If the sensor code keeps reappearing after resets you probably need that changed. That's not to say there can't be something else happening and as for differences between others and your symptoms we all know there are no two vehicles exactly alike due to a variety of reasons. Good luck and just get a good OEM QUALITY part! JIM

It's, an easy diy job if you are good with the spanners and have got the gear. Took me about 1.5hrs, 0.5hr of that looking for a 5mm Allen key among the multitude of imperial one's!
 
Hi Guys, been away for a bit - sounds like you have the same problem as me Rich. Same symptoms so I changed to a europarts sensor which lasted a week before the symptoms returned. I then ordered one from Sopers but they sent me the wrong thing so I got one from my local car-parts dealer (interpart sensor) about £50 - just fitted it today and it does feel great! Time will tell though. It seems to be a common problem. Hope you get sorted. Its really easy as long as you have a spanner to remove the vanos valve (32mm open ended spanner) done it twice now - 30 minutes the first time - 15 minutes this morning!:thumbsup:

found another odd code that I haven't seen before -anyone know what this is "214 signal speed" (see attachment)?

That's what happned to me Nige, my boss got me the cheapest one from Euro's and it was rubbish. Their O.E.M. one has been great, transformed my car.

Its hard to believe that they can sell stuff that just doesn't work! Tried a low cost MAF too and that was rubbish as well! Don't think there was anything wrong with the old one so just put it back. Just spent 6 hour fighting with the front suspension of my sons Alfa 147....what a nightmare! I think the Italians were on drugs the day they designed it!
 
To be honest Nige after the experiences we have at work cheap electronic parts are usually a waste of time and money. We will only entertain O.E.M. Quality parts now. Sooner or later the retailers will realise this too and stop stocking them. As for the Alfa, I had to fail a n/s/f upper suspension arm on one a few weeks ago, bloody nightmare, and that was just watching some other unlucky man change it.

The top arms on my Alfa are a pain in the assssss to do as you have to drop the top of the strut ect but If you put the long bolt in the other way around its a 10min job the next time you do it ;), I think the worst job I have done in years was changing a oil filter on my MX5 If I'd have kept it I'd have put on a remote filter kit ;)
 
Too right the MX 5 oil filter requires a double jointed wrist to apply pressure. The main thing is that nearly everyone over tightens their oil filter when they fit it, also the sump plug too.

I'm going to tackle it myself I think having done a bit of research. Just trying to work out which part supplier to go with other than BMW.

Useful tip! Thanks - I had to do the bottom arm but decided to do the whole thing! Doh! what a fool.....:confused:

Wherever you go to just ensure that you ask for and get Original Equipment Manufactuer quality and you should be fine.
