feels like driving with the "choke" out

Anyone got any recommendations for parts suppliers, need to order this sensor soon. Are there any suppliers that offer discount for forum members?

@Applied Thought you can also try Andrew Page if you have a local one or GSF.

Tony.

Finally got a sensor, watched the online tutorial, removed the vanos solenoid. Damn, wrong sensor! The one on the car has a non-removable cable the one I bought requires a cable. I did check by the reg number at the parts shop but it seems there are two having now done further research. Oh well, I'll pick up another one! Frustrating but interesting all the same as I'm learning a bit more car DIY as I muddle through the joys of older car ownership.

That is exactly what happened to me with the one from Sopers - it had no cable - I also ordered one from my local carparts after that which had the cable but the wrong plug and the sensor was a mirror image of what I needed.....Finally got the right thing and it has made a big difference! Don't give up!;)

Picked up a new one this morning. Just waiting for the engine bay to cool down as the vanos solenoid is a tad warm at the moment. In the meantime I've cleared the P0340 error so hopefully when the new sensor is fitted, no more error!

I give up! Old sensor out, new sensor about to go in when I find out that the connection is different. Aaarrrggghhh! Monday back to the parts shop. Not the most fun, but hopefully when I come to change it, I'll be a lot faster.

That's bloody unlucky, there can't be many more options.

Pretty frustrating I think, but you've been patient waiting for Sean to post so take a few deep breaths and use some of that patience here. You'll get it done yourself which is the important part and next time things should go better. We've all done this dance at some point so you aren't alone. JIM

I will Jim, few cold beers will help in the meantime.

Exactly what happened to me - Mine looks like the one on the right in your picture - I ended up with a part by Intermotor (part19141) - fitted and works a treat - had a lovely blast last night collecting the Friday evening Chinese with the top down! Keep at it! it will be worth it.....Nige:thumbsup:

The one on the right is the original BMW part. I'll see what the parts shop come up with on Monday.

What happened next?

Got a new part (correct one), fitted it, slipped with the Allen key and in the process partly broke the what I think is the vent pipe. As a temporary measure I have use the magic of duct tape to 'just get by' until I can get yet another part. Fault code P0340 code cleared and out for a blast to see if the fix has worked. Scan run again, my nemesis is back, fault code P0340 back to taunt me. I'm really at a loss now so if anyone has an idea other than pushing it off a cliff (don't think I could actually do it), I'm all ears.
