Purple rain failed her MOT yesterday.
Mostly little things that I can rectify before the next test.
A new one being tyre valves perished. This is on the AC wheels so I'm just going to put the other wheels back on.
The main thing is both rear brake pipes corroded. Kwik fit have quoted me an estimated £250... is this reasonable?
It's beyond my capability to make them myself.

Cheers
Dave

£250 for 2 brake pipes is nothing short of a rip off Davy. It would cost less to come down to me. Which pipes exactly, is it the ones on tbe swing arms?

Tony.

Outrageous price. There are mail order companies that will make up the correct length and put the correct fittings on both ends. Then you just bend them up with a small tool.

I’m about to do this myself for the first time. The pipes are maybe £20 for both.

And to an experienced person it’s maybe 1 hour work. So £230 per hour labour sounds a rip off to me. Or perhaps it’s 4 hours at £57.50 per hour. Another ripoff.

You can do this yourself with a deep breath and a bit of help from the forum.

I got caught on the valves --- but after I had them changed the two wheels that had been losing a couple of pound every days now have no trouble. In fairness the valves did look perished when we inspected them , and they were only a couple of years old.

Thats steep i brought all the pipe, fittings and all the tools for less than £60. Depending on what pipes are corroded they may not be the easiest to get too and again if they are replacing end to end it is a run but i had never done pipe making but managed it without issue but i did have everything removed to make it easier.
I'm sure the price can be bettered vastly !

The pipes across the back are cheap from BMW. About £15 each, but...

They are not easy to fit, though not £250 difficult. I would imagine 1-2 hours to fit on a proper ramp where you can lower things easily and have good access. About 4 hours on your driveway on car ramps.

If you make the pipes yourself, you can probably squeeze the pipe through gaps that the OEM pipe couldn't get through.

Hmm I definately don' have the time to order the bits and pieces to make them myself. But I'm capable enough to fit them at the weekend.
The wording exact was "brake pipe excessively corroded newrside rear (main) 3.6.b.2c"
Same for offside. What's my best bet then? Ask a local garage?

I' not sure mate If it is I don' think they are that bad. They were an advisory last year and I've not done many miles since.

That might be of use, I'm happy to fit them, just rather have them made up. Any idea where I could get them made?

Have you had a look under the car mate because some testers will mark brake pipes with chalk.

Depends which pipes i replaced mine from just short of the rear as Tony advised alittle corrosion last Mot.
I can measure them but as said they are cut to fit so may be not the easiest option.
All the flares are Din Flares on the z3. Not keen on having a go mate ?

I'm away with work for the week again so I dont even have time to. It's booked back in Saturday to have them done but think I'll cancel it. It will have to sit without an mot for a few weeks while I have a go.
What kit did you use @Antm72
