[....... our only concern was that being on a Business Park, there would be nowhere for an evening stroll without getting the cars out.
We could probably arrange via the Hotel reception staff for a minibus-type cab to ferry the Group to the local town and back ?

Hi Guy's,

I've managed to contact the preferred hotel today and agreed a rate for the crew. A standard double room will be 75 Euros (for two people) per night including breakfast, other more expensive rooms are available but I will leave you to decide if you need one of those, but you will have to call the hotel yourself and arrange the upgrade.

So that I can confirm the booking can you please PM me details of the name in which you want to book the room against, this would be first and second names for both persons in the room. If you could PM with your details ASAP I would appreciate it as we need to secure the booking.

Please note, all payments need to be completed by the 20th February otherwise the room will be lost, but if I can secure the rooms first we can then decide the best method of settling the bill later on.

If you prefer, you can contact the hotel yourself now and book the room you require, but please let me know you have done this so I can record it.
http://www.novotel.com/gb/hotel-0426-no ... ndex.shtml

I’ve emailed the hotel again requesting a code that people can book a room against but haven’t heard back yet, if you do call them just say you’re the BMW car club and that should be Ok.

Hi Guy’s,

I’m currently trying to sort out the tour around the Somme, which is planned for the Sunday. I’ve also looked at doing a tour on the Monday as well to Ypres, both tours will have a guide on the coach who will give us commentary at both sites and hopefully any interesting locations along the way. I haven’t got a full Itinerary for the two tours at present but this has been requested, please remember this is still in the planning stage.

After meeting Mike and Sandy on Saturday we thought the overall Itinerary would be :-

Travel from the UK on Friday 29th arriving in France around lunch time. Drive through France to Lens for hotel check in, rest of the day to settle in and put your feet up ;)
Saturday 30th would be a free day to have a drive around and visit some other places, not necessary war related. Mike and Sandy will have a think about this day.
Sunday 31st Somme visit on coach with Guide
Monday 1st Ypres visit on coach with Guide
Tuesday 2nd Home

The reason I have included two trips would hopefully make the trip more relaxing and allow us to take in more on route, we can also have a drink in the evening without worrying about driving the next day :D The money saved on fuel will go towards the tour costs so please take this into account when you look at the costs.

Now, the price per person for each days tour is working out circa £60 which I don’t think is two bad considering it’s a bank holiday weekend, and I was told the coach price has gone up due to this. Each tour will have a guide on board as well, so that’s another bonus. Also, as I said before the fuel saving will go towards the cost as well.
The only downside to both tours is any museum entry charges are not included.

Anyway, Please can you give me your feedback on whether you’re interested in doing only one tour, the Somme, or your happy to do both. Once I know I can contact the company who will put this together for us and I can come back with some more details

If you have any questions just give me a shout

Bazza. :coolsteer)

Bazza, both Mary and myself are of the same opinion. Although it looks expensive, we don't see the point in travelling all that way to sit in a hotel. So we would do both trips as we would probably not do it again.

Totally agree, Richard, as Bazza said, it will make a bit more of a mini holiday, aswell as a cruise! Will be good for the drivers to be able to ogle at the local 'wildlife', whilst being chauffeured for a change. ;) :-bd

We have decided to all meet at the Tunnell terminal at Folkestone an hour before departure on Friday morning at 8.30am for 9.36am departure. Hopefully we will be able to find each other easily, as we have organised it with Eurotunnell, that we can travel together :coolsteer)

The French are hot on the essentials you will need for the car & passengers. :-ss
You will need a reflective vest, a warning triangle (not a problem for us Zedders) headlight beam deflecters (we have used tape before, it does the same job) replacement bulb kit, (Model specific from BMW or Universal from Halfords, always useful, no matter where you are) a First Aid Kit and more recently a twin pack of breathalysers (I have just bought a twin pack from Halfords, ok for use in France, for £5.99, as we already have all the other items.) Halfords do a European travel pack with all these items in for £45. :-bd

Make sure that your car insurance also includes European Travel including breakdown cover and you will need to pack all your car documents to take with you aswell. :coolsteer)

Please let us know, if we have missed anything, so we can avoid any hiccups!! :-?

Ladies, don't forget that extra travel money for those sort after 'Haute Couture' items!! :ymdevil:

Getting excited now, as time will fly and the Easter weekend will soon creep up on us!! \:D/
