it is meant to have chrome line interior as per VIN spec though!

I've got a 98 Z3 and it has a chrome line spec but it only includes all the buttons (door pins, handbrake button and light switch - console is plain black) so might not be indicative of the console being wood.

oh I see, as in Z4 you can easily see what trim was used in the car so thought this might be the case on Z3 too! there is no mention of wood trim though, easily replaceable? somebody preferred to have some wood ;)

cant beat a good woodie.
its odd some choices buyer make, like mine for instance, it has the chrome interior with wood (which I would have thought were extras) but had the cheaper 15'' wheels fitted.

I’d actually call it an unrealistic guide price. I really have an issue with any type of auction house putting low estimates on to reel people in. Property auctions are the worst. I honestly think there should be legislation to stop it.

Unless there’s a gotcha this is more like a £7-£8k car, maybe more, especially in the hands of a dealer.

Estoril Blue is rare on any Z3. Its even rarer on a 3.0 with relatively few 3.0s ever made.

It’s also quite an oddity as it’s a Sport with another desireable feature - a walnut centre console.

And it has a hard top.

Also this must be one of the last Z3s ever registered. It’s the 3rd Z3 I’ve seen on an 03 plate but this one made it as far as May 03. Which is 16 months after it was made.

I’d be interested to know if there was anything unusual about this car when it was first ordered/sold.
I agree this is more like an 7.5k to 8.5k car (the HT is worth a grand alone)...auction house seems an odd place for a fairly rare car

In the late nineties and early 2000’s, lots of people avoided paying VAT on cars by importing them from European countries, including Beljum, in right hand drive.
I have one and it’s a 3.0.

I'm in Perth next week but they said the car's not on site yet.

It will be interesting to see what it does sell for, but you never know with auctions. There's a 3.0 on fleabay, 54 k , £7500.

I've looked it up on the Vin, it's an individual model, but could be just down to the veneer console rather than silver.
It’s individual because of the Estoril paint and blue soft top.

If you use etk vin decoder it tells you what makes it individual and that data appears to be specific BMW data.

In fact the data is so specific it leads me to believe individual is purely an internal build tag to give a list of work in the factory to perform. And not really meant to be a marketable commodity.

As opposed to Individual Editions which are a very different thing.

The vin recognises the car as auto. This one is manual. Odd

The MOT records are now showing for this car, must have been going through a cherished transfer.

Edit....

Yup, Hpi now shows as plate transfer 8/4/2018

4 previous keepers, current keeper since 9/3/2015

And Hpi says it's got 4 seats, sort of proves these systems are not infallible.

I have a manual that on vin checker says it’s auto. I can tell you it has never, ever had an auto box in it,ha ha. Some of the things on vin checker are wrong, rarely but deffo wrong.
Doesn’t help us much!

I think this car is the same as my car. mine is also 2003 registered. It says BMW individual on the plate in the engine bay on the N/S wing.
Think this just refers to the estoril blue colour and factory blue hood ?

Hello Chaps,

Long time observer of this wonderful forum, never bothered getting an account until today :) Thought I would join the fun..

Having read the thread and listened to all of your valid points I wanted to add my own thoughts on the matter.

Although the Zed looks like a lovely car I think I am going to air on the side of the auction with this and say they have given it a fairly realistic estimate.

It is an auction at the end of the day, so it could be mechanically not very sound.

And as an earlier member stated there are certain strange discrepancies that you don't have a chance to checkover when it is popped straight into an auction. You have to ask yourselves, why would a dealer put this car into an auction just before the summer, when like you guys say it could make good money on a forecourt.

If you look online elsewhere at the moment, there is a nice one in cornwall, granted older and without the hardtop, but that is only 4.5k and you can go and test drive it and give it a full once over. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z3-3-0i/152994837872?hash=item239f33f570:g:uzEAAOSwZMZa3i6S

So i think to say this car is worth double that in an auction setting is a bit crazy, because for all we know the guy that last owned it may of left the sump plug off it last week.

I know it is probably unlikely but just my two pennys worth. I have no affiliation with the car or its owner, I just thought I would chime in my thoughts for anyone who is interested.

I am just more annoyed that I missed a 70k M Roadster a week or so ago, it only made 12.5k on ebay. And i had phoned BMW to confirm miles were right :( Got called in to work and missed the end of the auction.. Sounded really nice when I phoned the chap too.. For anyone thats interested...

Welcome @z3pete1968, very valid points you make but I suppose buying at auction is always a risk. Fact is this is one of the last Z3 3.0i sold. I would not be too worried why the car is in the auction, this is probably a trade in that a dealer did not want to warranty moving forward, the car is up tomorrow so we’ll see what it brings.
