@zedonist, This was the drawing I came up with, this is using the standard BMW 3 pin temp switch. The standard temp switch has a normal speed and high speed switch, all this means is that the normal speed switches at a lower temp than the high speed. As you can see it was wired using the normal speed side of the switch. The relay which sits in line just before the fan was a generic relay with a switching current to match the fan.

Hope this makes sense?

Thanks Brian, have book marked for my later use, 1 question, where you have 12" Electric fan, i assume this is includes the feed from the thermostat, or is this a mod using the existing bmw thermostat? hope that makes sense

The mod above was using a bmw fan switch, @bruce&kim either bought this or had it on his car, I cannot remember.

hi i added a new lower temp stat in the rad and wired that direct to a live feed and then the fan as Brian has drawn in the diagram...I believe miitshimoto also do a rad sta for the radt which in hindsight would have been better I believe its for a Honda but easier to wire in and the temp setting is the same. Gary I got the slim line fan from mitshimoto as well 12" Just to had I have done a lot of miles and no probs at all

All makes sense now. Fitted one to a mk2 escort many years, and the fan wired into the thermostat and relay and then to the earth and fused to battery, I imagine the mishimoto switch kit is similar
