On the way to Santa Pod yesterday had a shattering experience in more ways than one.Water pump bearings went which then pushed the fan out of line which then smashed the shroud the fan and the rad. Spent all day researching and decided do away with the fan and go electric. Ordered a Mishimoto rad and 12" slimline fan.As the car is now at the garage I cant check but does any one know if the 2.8 has a temp sender unit in the rad? I think it has in which case I can have the electric fan wired to that if not I can order a separate unit which has a probe that fits into the fins on the rad and is fully adjustable. Many thanks Bruce
Think I have sorted the issue the rad stat is for a 1.9 but it runs cooler ie the fan comes on earlier and with the added lower temp of the upgraded rad car should run cooler http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Radiator-...rts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d3a12c44ek all I need now is a good quality water pump and jobs a "goodun"
all parts delivered now so hopefully back on the road soon...the new mishimoto rad is quite impressive http://www.mishimoto.co.uk/mishimot...r-99-02.html?gclid=CM_0zaiC07kCFS4r2wodTzgAnA
+1 on pics, looked at those rads before, they also do the full fitting kits and temp senders etc for the electric fans
Will take some pics when I get it back I got the fan and kit aswel from them should look tidy well it did in the box
Called in garage tonight only problem they have is how to wire in the temp sender and the fan. I have scoured the net and hard to find any info on GB cars as they have no aux fan on them. Looked at the wiring and it looks like the wiring is in place to have on fitted so hopefully it will just plug and play..
This is now becoming a pain in the backside...all fitted but still in garage who had to call an auto electrician and he cant work how to wire the damn thing in...and still no car.....
This http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=542497 was prob the best thread I found ..but American and I think the spec is different ie aux fan already installed
Thanks to Brian all is well !! Just been to watch a few minis caning it around castle Coombe now off to watch football And the car is driving a dream !!! throttle response seems better and mpg up to 28 which is a record..Thanks Brian you Are a legend
Record broken now showing 30.6 mpg normal driving conditions motorway and A roads etc a massive 20 percent better. Stuck in traffic in Bath for about 45 mins and the fan didn't even cut in...Happy days
Really glad you have your car back on the road, even better that you seem to be getting better MPG. Cheers Brian
Hi as promised a picture been a good modification for me car runs a lot smoother better on fuel and more responsive
Bruce, I'm tempted to have a go at this now my fan blades disintegrated again. What electric fan did you order, and do you have a link. Need a new rad, so if I can't find a cheaper replacement I'll probably go with the mishimoto from your link above. Ta, Gary
