Electric - a false dawn ? what do you think ?

Well 2040 the end of diesel and petrol eh ?, funny watching TV , the greens saying ban cars all together and use public transport (have they never heard of the fun of driving ?), seems everyone ??? wants electric to be king. So what happens to petrol heads and groups like this one (convert a z3 to batteries )

When older electric cars whose batteries ( expensive and hardly pollution free to make) are worn out , does the car becomes worthless ?, what happens when a few million cars decide to charge batteries at the same time ?, electricity powered cars seem short sighted , got to be a better option ?, for me the are akin to the pre runner/competitors to VHS, MICROSOFT, IPHONE. They are all Sinclair C5 bound .

The oil companies will be fighting to stay in the game. They will be making sure fuel cells are developed to a point they are viable.
A single solution without investment in infrastructure to support it is doomed to failure and exploitation.

It's not so much about reducing overall pollution, just in certain areas. Electric cars just push the pollution further down the supply chain, after all electricity doesn't grow on trees and at this point in time a lot of it comes from unclean production. Something has to be done, and I wouldn't I'd care if my daily driver was powered by unicorn poop as long as it's cheap to run. My fun car however, not so sure...

Fun cars could be a thing of the past and investment into high end cars could catch a cold in a few years.
As mentioned a cheap everyday car is ok but will be a souless silent assassin.
Fully electric might have a knock effect for petrol heads who enjoy the involvement and roar of the engine
Car events will disappear car related things and car tour companies will suffer.
It will just be a means of transportation the future looks bleak for petrol head lovers.
Glad iam not starting out driving.
Only my opinion of course.

The world wont end in 2040 for petrol heads, it's just the production of petrol and diesel cars that will cease. There will be plenty of cars left on the roads to last until the end of the century at least.

Just imagine how big electric diggers and bulldozers will need to be

Don't they have electric motors on subs? Run off batteries they charge on the surface by diesel powered generators, or have they improved the technology these days?

Iam sure any petrol or diesel left after D day will be punished heavily financially be out priced.
As mentioned I believe diesel transport lorry's buses and the likes should be tackled first.
As for scrapping petrol cars what do they plan on giving say a priceless Ferrari owner and the likes .

They have got them over here already for driving in Amsterdam etc.
Spoke to a driver of one, he said they were crap.

I read a piece recently that said cruise ships were terrible also; burning rubbish fuel and difficult to regulate in the middle of the ocean. Just returned from a trip to Turkey where all the moped's, scary as they are seem to be electric versions, even worse now as you can't hear them. they seem to have embraced this tech - but electricity comes at a cost....!
