I don't know what the roof looks like on your model but on my '96 1.9l, there were 2 different prices on roofs. The cheaper price did not include sewn-in plastic flaps that screw into the frame of the roof. To give you an idea of where they are, if your car side window is up and you run your finger along the top of the window starting from the front of the car to the rear, as the top of the glass begins to curve downwards, in that area, there is, on my car, about a 12 inch flap sewn into the roof, on each side of the car. that screws into the corresponding curve of the roof frame with about 4 or 5 screws. This helps attach the roof to the frame and helps to repel rain and wind. MAKE SURE, IF THIS IS THE TYPE ROOF YOU HAVE, THAT YOUR NEW ONE HAS THESE FLAPS. Frankie

Frankie your a star...thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with me

I think you should refer to the manufacturer of the top as they have instructions on how to treat new tops. Frankie

That will be BMW who are supplying and fitting a whole new roof.
I will have a look and see if if they have anything on the waterproofing of a new roof on the website
The BMW home page doesn't even mention z3..

Thank you for the video ..I understand your point.....PS love the garage

You do not need to proof, especially a new OEM, hood.
The fibers contract when wet to make it water tight.
Just keep it clean.

Don't they expand to seal when wet HT and contract as they dry? But I agree you shouldn't need to proof until it looks like this is failing. JIM

Hey Frankie your in the wrong job...your a funny guy :shifty: lol

@Mark h ask any question you like, that is why we are all on the forum.
There is nothing like a stupid question, only stupid answers.......;)

Maybe that's why yours is leaking. Frankie (I just couldn't resist it)
@FRANKIE, mine leaks because of old age and not getting wet anymore. So it's always contracted and leaking.

Never have done that , what's it supposed to do? Can't see any reason to climb in a tub fully clothed, seems like a waste of water to me!! JIM
