Morning All
just wanted to ask if i am doing the right thing.
went to the car this morning and noticed a vertical rip in my rear window , no other sign of damage just a 7 inch vertical split. Contacted my insurance {F/C] and i was told my car would be collected to have a replacement window fitted {£100}
looked for the best way to have a new window fitted but i didnt find anyone else going via the car insurance route,something tells me there is a reason for this or am i over thinking outcomes.
Thank you
Mark

Hi Mark,

I tried this a year or so ago, my insurance company at the time did not cover the rear screen, if yours is covered by your insurance and does not count as a claim, crack on. If you have to declare the claim in future years then pay for the window yourself as your premium will increase.

It sounds like it has had a new roof already, all OEM roof have a zip,window, and some after markets ones do sewn in windows, I am sure a new one could be sewn in, but most probably needs the roof removed, so at that cost, best to fit a new roof.

I have been researching new tops for a while now and no one but BMW does a new top with a zip in window. I imagine that the fellow that did David's top could remove your top and stitch a zip in if that's what you want. He does all his tops from scratch so should be able to take care of you. His price is very reasonable all things considered. HTH JIM

I have seen new roofs on e bay at 300 .I was just about to click the buy now..then the voice of reason{my wife} stopped me.."wait for the insurance company" and "you don't know how to fit it..do you""
All helpful stuff that you want to hear..
I didn't however stop her buying 2 New suitcases...they just turned up.110 quid each ..I just may click that buy now button and get her to pack just 1 case...only joking ..

Your wife's voice of reason was a good call, I would imagine if your insurance company do approve the new roof you will possibly get a BMW roof with a zip in window.

If they do not approve it get a new one fitted, a couple of companies do this for a really quite reasonable rate, I personally do not think it is an easy DIY job.

Hello the cost of claiming (if it's a BMW hood) and the increased renewal premium plus your excess to pay will be cheaper than not claiming

Look in to the cost of replacement with your insurer before you go ahead

You may find it cheaper to sort you hood yourself rather than claiming
