Deja Vu.....Oh Bu**er!!!

No not picking them up until Thursday now.
When I collect, I will ask if they hold the details of the colour, and what, if any, their reference number is.
If it’s a good match, I could let you have the details.

Please. And thanks @Mazza 😀
Interesting thread you have here and thanks for putting in the time and effort to share your car restoration journey with us.

Sprayed the slam plate and finish is ok, but the colour is not quite correct. but, realised the slam plate they used to get the colour match, was itself a colour matched part after the shunt two years ago.

its not that far off, so I’m happy enough with it

It’s a pretty good match to the other slam plate… so can’t fault the paint guys.
Just need to mask it up and spray the lower front part with Matt Black then it can go back on…. And then start putting it back together.
when it’s not raining!!!

Always inspired the day after a Zedshed visit, so with the spraying complete on the slam panel, made a start on putting it all back together.

Paint colour actually looked better than I first though

I put the lights on just to see that all the fixing points lined up….and they did,

I took the lights off again as I have to do some wire soldering to add the bumper sidelights into the loom, but need to work out where I want the wires to go first.
The bonnet lines up with the catches so that is another sign that it’s straight again.

@ktnez99 , Hi Dawn, I do have some of the spray paint left in the can ( don’t know how much or how much you want….) but you are welcome to have it , even if you Just want to try a test piece and check the colour.
Just PM your address and I will stalk you ……I mean, I will send you the can=))

Thanks @Mazza will message you.

Not leaps and bounds......but a big step forward today.....

Extended the wiring that will go to the ‘add in’ side lights but found the M44 wiring really short and not easy to break into, so will probably use the clip on connectors instead of cutting and soldering.

But got the bumper installed after quite a fight with it......it didnt want to line up with the other fixing points.

The top end seemed ok but the bottom was about an inch out.........so after checking on RealOem, found the bottom tray was the same part number for both prefacelift and facelift, I realised the front end just needed a bit of silicone spray and some persuasion

It then just clipped back into place and all the fixings lined up. I did loosen off the 8 bumper mounts nuts before fixing the two large bumper bolts .....( something I learned when fixing all the fairings on my 1300 Pan European) which meant it all screwed together before tightening it all up.

Haven’t dropped the bonnet down yet as I’m charging the battery and dont want to trap the mains lead.
Next was to drop the lights in
D74AF3CE-D096-47A5-84C8-26E100B1F9B2.webp

Starting to look like a car again.....but only held in with one screw at the moment as I will set the up once the wiring is done.
The new grill does look more aggressive than the old one

Shame about the bonnet , but that can wait until I can find one in the right colour

But at least I managed to get it more or less correct ( so it doesn’t rub on anything)
Just a couple of trim pieces to get .....but should be back on the road in a couple of days :)

Can’t a good body shop sort the bonnet out @Mazza ?

I think it will be a cheaper option to get a replacement bonnet. It will be quite a few hours work to straighten it , then it will have to be sprayed,,,,,

Not a good day to start with but turned it round….. took the Kia in for the recall and they swapped two 40 amp fuses for two 30 amp ones ??????
Anywsy didn’t take long , but got home to find the freezer had a pool of water under it……
Most of the contents still ok so transferred them to the one in the garage. Cleaned it up and chipped off loads of ice from the inside.
cleaned it all and turned it back on and the temperature warning light went out about 2 hours ago, so I leave it overnight and see what happens. It is running a lot quieter now though????

after that episode I went out to work on the 1.9 ….. and pushed the bonnet shut,,,,, what a mistake….. if jammed shut…. And after trying all sorts of ways to open it ended up removing the bumper again……2 hours later the bonnet was open !!!!
I realigned the catches on the bonnet to make sure they were dead centre to the slam plate and eventually it worked as it should .
During this I noticed that the foglight that came with the bumper was a bit loose, and it turned out to be one of the ears had broken off , but was still screwed to the bumper fixing point.
so a bit of the trusty Gorilla glue..,. And that fixed it

Then there is the problem of the fill plates that sit next to the fog lights. I need them but at 15.00 ea that’s a bit steep !!!

The black ones are the prefacelift ones, which are now no good as the bumper is a facelift.
The blue ones are off the 2.8……. And as that isn’t going anywhere for a while…..,,

………..now I have them=))

Got the bumper back on and all lined up, but it’s been stinking hot today in Bognor so called it a day.
Try and get more done tomorrow.

Good progress in the end mate so all’s well that ends well. We’ve got a plague of those tiny thunder flies this afternoon and they’re driving me nuts.:rage:

Tony.

Just a bit of wiring today , and a few screws and some trim pieces.,……back on the road!!
D373C1B9-9324-455F-946C-73E5B5E6C1D1.webp

Took it out for a run and called in on my local garage to arrange for the lights to be aligned.
The gaps around the front end are not perfect but not worth the time setting it all up as I will be changing the bonnet at some point ( when I find one in good condition and Arctic silver. )

and all the lights work  , even the new ones on the bumper=))

so that’s it on this build for now until I locate a bonnet.
Thanks for all your comments

I have a friend with a very clean silver bonnet, I'll check with him what silver it is.
