If it's the speedometer illumination which isn't working it should state that on the refusal notice.

:(Not the dimmer switch it's the 2 sensors under the seats that need replacing but my mechanic sais this us not a guarantee that the lights will go out. The carpets are damp due to water getting in, we don't know. I'm heart broken as I may have to sell it for parts :-( :(

Make sure the drainage holes for the convertible top are not clogged up. They are located on each side of the car behind to doors when they are closed. Water not draining from the top will end up on the floors possibly causing electrical shorts.
In the picture, right behind the seats, you see the frame of the roof. Two pieces of the frame come together there at a hinge. Look between that hinge and the body of the car and you will see a hole about the size of your little finger. You can open up a clothes hanger and run it down that hole as far as you can to unclog it. The bottom of the hole is in front of the rear wheel on the underside of the car. If its possible, you can stick the nozzle of an air hose against the opening to blow it out (at the top of the hole). You can test to see if its open by carefully pouring some water down the hole. The opening of the hole that you see is located in a small rectangular compartment. When you look for it, it is difficult to see. You might see the rectangular compartment but not be able to see the hole at the bottom of it because you can't get your head in a position for a direct line of sight. When you pour the water into the compartment, it should drain out the bottom of the car right away. If not, its still clogged. Once you've done this, allow the car to dry out. Some people who scrub out their rugs actually place a small fan in or at the car for a few hours to dry it out more quickly. If you're lucky, any wires that were wet might dry out enough so that things get back to normal. Good luck with this. Frankie (after midnight in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.)
PS I had a picture of the hole but I can't find it now. I've posted it on the forum before. Perhaps our fearless leader @GazHyde can find it for me.

breaking the car for parts is a bit drastic @Prinses Nikkie , sounds to me like your airbag light has come on, its not the first time water in the foot wells has caused this, the light will stay on even if the repair is done (thats if it needs a repair in the first place, i have seen these lights come on just by moving the wires under the seat, then when reset the light has stayed off) they need to be reset, this is easly done with either a code reader (cheap on ebay) or if you have another member close by who can use there inpa software to check it out. where abouts in the uk are you?

no Zed deserves to be broken up for the sake of dash lights without a bit deeper investigation.

Where are you? We may be able to help, you might just get it fixed for the cost of a coffee!

Hi @Prinses Nikkie and welcome to the helpful forum.
Let us know where you are and we can help no need to break a car up just cos the lights are on. I am sure we can sort out the leak and cure most problems.
