Cortina project

Yeah, I had a fastback Rapier. One of my favourite cars. OLE 521L, where are you now?
The Peugeot 205GTI was indeed a game changer. Someone in that organisation really knew how to tune suspension for a fun drive - what went wrong in the subsequent years?

I work at a Tyre House/General garage in Lincoln for a few more weeks mate. I worked at Central Garage in Gainsborough from 1977 until 1986 which closed after the owner Fred Sharpe died. He was a very nice guy to work for, his son, not so much. He closed the place a few days after his dad's funeral.

Tony.

My dad had a Cortina Mk2 1600E in a China Blue colour...i loved that car, looked great and it was fast too (in its day)

Ive only ever owned 1 Ford and that was the Mk5 Cortina with the 'wonderful' VV carb....my least favourite car & I sold it inside 6 months.

My lad worked out the other day that the 7 or so Mk 1/2 Escorts I owned in the 80s, had I kept them all, would have given me enough to retire at 50. Thanks James!

Had a Corsair 2000E for 8 yrs It was mint and I wish I still had it, rare car these days as they weren't that popular in the 60s. 1600E would have been nice though.

Blimey are you that old Niall =))

My old Consul had the same V4 engine which looked absolutely lost under that big bonnet.

Yep, I know exactly what you mean. The old Fords I've owned down the years:
2 x 1966 Cortina Mk1 1500GTs
3 x 1970 Cortina 1600Es
1 x 1972 Escort Mk1 1300GT
1 x 1976 Cortina Mk3 2000E
1 x 1976 Granada Mk1 3.0GL
2 x 1980 Mk5 Cortina 2.0 GLs
1 x 1990 Escort Cabriolet All Blue Limited Edition

Oh how I wish I still had them..... :arghh:

My late brother Martin's first car was Mk.1 Cortina GT 4 dr.in Monaco Red. It had recently had a 1200 lump dropped in as the original 1500 had expired. Our Dad spotted it one day for sale at the Black Bull at Welton near Scampton for £50. The reg. no. was 8910 VT. Both would be worth a few quid today.

Tony.

I've never owned a Ford. I had a Ford Sierra as a company car, and a Fiesta Van and currently have a Ford Courier Van but never owned one. In fact I passed my driving test in 1977 and in all the years since have only had the following cars.

Chevette L
Volvo 244
Volvo 245
Volvo 360

Merc 230ce ……. still got it

Audi 80
Peugeot 306.. wrote it off.. overturned on a country road, skidded on a bend, went up a bank and tipped over. Fire Brigade cut the top off

Peugeot 306 … wrote it off ……. tranny van rear ended it on the nearside rear corner and bent it

21 cars between you and your good lady seems remarkably restrained to me. I did a count up the other day. With the cars I've owned, plus the company cars I had and the wife's cars, we're on 63 since 1976. Madam keeps telling me that if I hadn't wasted so much money on cars we'd be living in Barbados by now. Don't think so - I don't like rum....:D

I've only included the cars we've owned. I had company cars for many years while the kids were young but even if I included them I'm nowhere near your total, probably only about half if my memory serves me correctly.

An old Flight Sergeant of mine in the early 80's had a lovely brown/bronze coloured 1600e .......... sold it and got a Volvo 340, in yellow :arghh: We all just sat there numb :(

Had loads of fords over the years mainly xrs but I always remember ford cortnal mk11s going through our local car auctions for £15 nobody wanted them and most ended there days on the local banger racing circuit along with vax hall vivas magnums etc you couldn't give them away
