Hindsight is a wonderful thing mate. At that time the Dolly Sprint was a much faster car than a Gorgina, and if they were both in the same condition today I think the Dolly would be worth as much. I drove a few of each and to me the Triumph was the better car, This is not saying I don't rate the old Fords either, I had my fair share of those, my fave being my MK.1 Capri .

I've had 3 Cortina1600Es over the years. An Aubergine one (purple), a Carnival Red one and a Light Orchid one (metallic pink). Great cars one and all. Smart looking, good handling, reasonable performance and oh so easy to work on. Where are the modern day equivalents?

Did they all have vinyl rooves
 
Chrome rostyle wheels?
 
The Aubergine one had a vinyl roof, but not the red or pink ones. They all had chrome centre Rostyles, but not chrome rims. At the time you could get stainless 'rim embellishers' for the wide rim Rostyles from Ford at around £25 a set. Happy days....
 
I had a set of those trim rings on my bright green Consul after I fullyvstrippedcand repainted a set of Rostyles. Looked the dogs:thumbsup:

Yes, that one. It was bright green with tan PVC interior. I fitted a black vynil roof too.

Very nice. I can still picture that bright green, but can't for the life of me remember the name of the colour.
60s/70s Fords were great, although I have to say my real passion was for 60s/70s Rootes/Chrysler cars. I always fancied a Hillman Hunter GLS but sadly never got to own one. Very quick car in its day.

I worked at a Rootes Group garage from 1977, by then a Chrysler named one. The Hunter was a good car but my favourite was the Sunbeam Rapier, never got to drive H120 Holbay version though. Never saw a Lotus Sunbeam but did drive a Sunbeam Ti. I also drove the very first Peogeot 205 GTI in Gainsborough, boy that thing was a game changer.
