Repaired two broken wires in boot loom and both doors & boot lock & unlock.with key
From boot only boot & drivers door lock & unlock with key
From the drivers door only drivers door and boot lock & unlock with key
Should I be looking for another broken wire ? or has the actuator failed

I have not got my fob working yet needs re programming
Your thoughts on this would be appreciated

Just to confirm, if you use the key in the passenger lock all the locks will lock and unlock?

It can not be the actuator if it is working when switched at the passenger door. This has to be a wiring issue somewhere, its signals not the actuators as the drivers door wouldn't lock/unlock from anywhere if the actuator had gone.

My thinking exactly Antm but I am no expert. I will untape the wires in the boot loom and try to find another broken inside the outer cover, any idea what colour to look for ? as that would be most helpful.

Thanks Geoff
PS keep watching Grumpy. Did you see my post about the Grumpy Mole ?

I don't quite agree with this, IMO the electrical motor in the actuator could have blown or the wires to the motor are broken, there are two sets of wires to the actuator, the wires that trigger the central locking open or closed (3 wires) and the wires to the motor (2 wires).

The wires that signal the doors to open or close are being mechanically triggered as you turn the key in the passenger lock, this proves these are OK.

You need to either check the wiring again to the actuator or put a multimeter on the wires at the actuator to test for voltage. Below is the wiring for the boot loom circuit, the door/s will be very similar (maybe different colours).

The two wires below trigger the door actuator/lock.

1.5 BL/GR blue/grey - lock motor wire

1.5 WS white - lock motor wire

The three wires below are supply wires and lock position wires

0.35 RT/GN red/green - boot lock switch - supply wire

0.5 WS/BL white/blue - boot lock switch - unlock wire

0.5 WS/GN/GE white/green/yellow - boot lock switch - lock wire

Hi Brian & Antm
Electrics are not my strong point and my nephew who is a BMW wizard but lives miles away is in Canada shooting for the English team at the moment so cant get him involved.
Before I start taking door cards off and all that goes with it do either of you know which colour wire in the boot loom might be broken as I would like to eliminate that area first, but still hoping that it is a broken wire in loom. Once this is sorted I will try to get my nephew involved again and get the fob working which Jim kindly sent me from littlefeller

It's very unlikely that a wire will have broken inside the insulation without any external evidence in my experience. I still lean towards the n/s door solenoid. Andy or Adrian might have one ?

Tony.

Thanks, will leave it now until after MOT on Tuesday. Out with my TR4 this weekend with it on show in the West Somerset Steam Fayre at Bishops Lydard, hope that it stays dry.

The only wires that may be affected are the white 1.5 and the Blue/Grey 1.5 but I honestly do not think this is the problem, I am fairly confident (whilst sat a few hundred miles away on the end of a keyboard :))that you have an actuator issue.
