Captain Tom.

It looks a pretty big garden too....

I love this story and how the nation have got behind it, he's such a nice chap when you see him being interviewed.

Been following it since he was at 90k, and donated the next day and it had jumped £30 overnight. Just Giving's website has been pushed to the limits keeping up with the amount of visitors and donations.

I've already posted the Just Giving link, but I'll do it again https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tomswalkforthenhs currently at £12.3 million off 630000 donations

Think someone calculated it's about 1.5km in total distance for the 100 laps.

Amazing also a nice touch for the Forces to give him a guard of honour

A socially distanced guard of honour

"This morning, as Captain Tom Moore completed his challenge to walk 100 laps of his garden, soldiers from The Yorkshire Regiment (a regiment formed from Tom's old regiment The Duke of Wellington's) surprised him with a guard of honour, at a safe distance."

I think I under estimated in the other thread when said the total would get past £10 million. It’s got some way to go I’m sure, we’ve just talked on phone to my daughter who was saying she can’t get on the Just Giving page as it’s be inundated with people donating.

A truly remarkable and humble man.:thumbsup:

You can see he is completely taken back but also driven by the public response to his amazing charitable walk. Maybe he should be rewarded and thanked with something more tangible. Some recognition, however small in Queen's birthday honours in June maybe. Show him that his efforts are out of the ordinary and worth national celebration in these hard challenging times.
Not to belittle the work of others though - Am sure there will be many thousands of others deserving of being in that category too.

I love this guy. I have huge respect for older people, especially those who lived through the war and fought in it.

It would be great if her maj could give him a call with his birthday coming up to thank him. Maybe even broadcast it to motivate the nation and keep his fund-raising going.

Give him a Knighthood I say. Can think of some awards that should be revoked if necessary.:)

I reckon he'll be up to £15m later today.

Agree with an honour. But a nice little phone call, especially with being 100 in 2 weeks, is more immediate and will probably mean as much to him. Downing Street have said Boris will be looking at recognition. Not exactly going to be mr popular unless he arranges something now is he? So I reckon he's nailed on. No idea if it will be a Sir, hope so.

Over 16 million with gift aid now.

Tony.

What a wonderful man he is :)
He’s doing a wonderful job :)
I bet he never thought he’d be on TV and raise that much money :)

This is a Scott bike - made in Shipley - which I raced in Yorkshire after the war. I have found a few other photos which I will get up on the site early next week. I hope you enjoy and please supportt@NHSCharities

I love his biker gear

I've got visions of my grandad on his old rigid frame 500 Norton. He wore a canvas trench coat, leather gauntlets, flat cap worn back to front so that the wind wouldn't lift the peak and blow it off, a pair of wellies and his pipe stuck in his gob upside down to keep the rain off his baccy.

Incredible.

Hi Jack your post reminds me of my elder brother who passed away in December 2018 at nearly 90 who i can just see on his first bike in about 1949 a O.E.C. with strange front forks and a 700c JAP engine wearing the same sort of trench coat, goggles gauntlets and wellies, no pipe of cap, then in 51/2 he got a Triumph speed twin which I can remember having a ride on many times, great fun as a nipper, would no let kids go on bikes that youing today thank goodness. Keep well all of you good folks. Geoff
